Lahore: A meeting chaired by Minister for Local Government Zeeshan Rafique at the Program Management Unit (PMU) Garden Town reviewed the progress on the Punjab Development Program (PDP).
Secretary Local Government Zaid Bin Maqsood and Additional Secretary Mehreen Faheem Abbasi also attended, while Special Secretary/Project Director Shahid Zaman Lak briefed the meeting on PDP schemes.
Minister Local Government Zeeshan Rafique expressed satisfaction over the fact that 96 out of 110 underground water storage tanks (UGSTs) under PDP have been completed so far. He said that the construction of the remaining water storage tanks is in the final stages. He said that 106 out of 124 drains in 51 cities have also been completed. Zeeshan Rafique said that work has started on the construction of 25 disposal stations in the next phase. He directed to take forward the schemes of disposal stations on priority basis saying that every effort will be made to meet the target of construction of disposal stations before the next monsoon.
The Minister for Local Government said that on the instructions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, work on construction of streets and roads will also be started simultaneously. He urged that consultation with local elected representatives must be kept in mind while preparing development schemes. “Both speed and quality should be taken into account in PDP schemes. Assistant Project Directors and Municipal Officers (Infrastructure) are responsible for ensuring quality”, he added.
