Mirpur (ajk): Deputy Director Tourism Tariq Mahmood Malik on Friday visited the Mirpur Museum and reviewed its collection of historical artefacts, photographs of prominent figures of the Kashmir freedom movement, former Presidents and Prime ministers of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and other objects depicting the region’s ancient and modern history, culture and heritage.
During the visit, General Secretary Syed Ali Ahmed Shah Memorial Society Syed Qaiser Sheraz Kazmi? handed over historical photographs of Captain General (retd) Syed Ali Ahmed Shah, a prominent leader of the Kashmir freedom movement and second President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, for display at the museum, official sources told reporter here late Friday.
He briefed the deputy director Syed Ali Ahmed Shah’s services for the Kashmir freedom movement, development of the State of Jammu and Kashmir, rehabilitation of refugees from Jammu and Kashmir, and defence of the state.
Speaking on the occasion, Tariq Mahmood Malik said Mirpur was an important industrial and commercial city as well as the divisional headquarters, while its status as a district with a large overseas population had given it recognition across the world.
He added that the basic objective of establishing the Mirpur Museum was to acquaint the younger generation and tourists from across the world with the ancient history and cultural heritage of Jammu and Kashmir.
He said successive governments and senior bureaucracy had taken important steps for establishment of the museum, enabling the project to reach completion.
