Islamabad: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Monday said minorities were equal citizens of Pakistan and their role in the country’s development and prosperity was of vital importance.



Addressing a ceremony held at Parliament House in connection with National Minorities Day. the Governor said Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto had always raised her voice for the protection of minority rights. while President Asif Ali Zardari and Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari remained committed to safeguarding the rights of minority communities.



He said National Minorities Day provided an opportunity to reaffirm the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and the constitutional principles of equality. freedom. human dignity and inclusion.



Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani. addressing the ceremony. said that during his tenure as prime minister in 2009. the government had declared Aug 11 as National Minorities Day to acknowledge the equal status. rights and contributions of minority communities and renew the nation’s commitment to their protection.
