Lahore: The Communications and Works Department (CandW) Punjab has started effective monitoring of vehicle axle load across the province.
For this purpose, the weight and overloading of vehicles will be checked through a mobile weight management system, while it has also been decided to adopt a public-private partnership (PPP) model for long-term axle load management.
This decision was taken in a meeting held in the CandW Committee Room under the chairmanship of Provincial Minister for Communications Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bherth, in which the Secretary for Communications, Special Additional Secretary, Chief Engineers and other concerned officers participated.
It was informed in the meeting that the Movable Weight Management System will be deployed at Kallar Kahar, Choa Syedan Shah Road, Tarbela, Dhok-Haliar District Attock, Lillah, Jhelum Road, Multan-Vehari Road and Jhang-Shorkot Road to effectively monitor the axle load of vehicles.
Provincial Minister Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharath directed that strict legal action be taken against overloading vehicles without discrimination.
He said that axle load management will ensure the durability and quality of roads and will also significantly improve road safety, while a long-term axle load policy will provide more effective and sustainable results in the future.
