Monsoon plantation drive to be expanded: Habib-ul-Hasan Gilani

Abbottabad: Additional Secretary of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Department of Climate Change, Environment, Forestry and Wildlife Syed Habib-ul-Hasan Gilani has directed the Forest Department to expand the scope of the Monsoon Plantation Campaign and ensure proper care and survival of planted saplings.

During his visit to Siran Forest Division, Gilani said the monsoon season was an ideal time for plantation and stressed that achieving plantation targets alone was not enough. He said field officers must ensure proper protection and care of saplings during their initial growth stages to achieve sustainable results.

Gilani formally inaugurated the monsoon plantation campaign by planting a deodar sapling at the Forest Rest House Domel. He said deodar was an important and valuable tree species in the mountainous areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and its protection and growth played a significant role in maintaining ecological balance.

He directed the concerned officers to plant species suited to local environmental and soil conditions and establish an effective system for regular field monitoring.

He also called for continuous vigilance against illegal logging, forest fires and other threats to forests and wildlife, directing field staff to assess forest conditions regularly and take immediate action to address emerging issues.
