Islamabad: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges on Wednesday expressed grave concern over the circulation of a fake appointment/offer letter issued in the name of Abdul Wajid and falsely attributed to the National Assembly Secretariat on social media platforms.
The committee directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to conduct further investigation into the matter and submit a detailed report at its next meeting.
The 17th meeting of the committee was held at Parliament House under the chairmanship of MNA Muhammad Afzal.
During the meeting, the Additional Director General FIA informed the committee that accused Abdul Wajid had been arrested and produced before the court, which granted his physical remand for investigation.
He said the accused, during interrogation, admitted to preparing fake National Assembly identity cards bearing his name and a fake appointment letter showing himself as Assistant Director, National Assembly of Pakistan.
The FIA official further informed the committee that the accused’s mobile phone and laptop had been taken into possession under a proper seizure memo for examination and forensic analysis.
The committee directed the FIA to complete further investigation and present its detailed findings at the next meeting.
The committee also expressed concern over the non-attendance of Metropolitan Officer (Regulation), Metropolitan Corporation Lahore, Jawad ul Hassan, and decided to summon him at its next meeting.
It also considered Question of Privilege No. 71 moved by MNA Khawaja Izhar ul Hassan against former Director General, Solid Waste Management Board, Imtiaz Ali Shah. The committee decided to summon the former official over his failure to obtain written leave for non-attendance.
The committee considered various proposed amendments to the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007.
After deliberation and consultation with the Ministries of Parliamentary Affairs and Law and Justice, it recommended that proposed amendments to Rules 295, 296 and 205 should not be passed, while amendments to Rules 30 and 31 may be passed.
The committee also recommended that the proposed amendment to Rule 44 moved by MNA Aliya Kamran should not be passed.
Regarding amendments to Rules 118 and 119 and omission of Rule 234A, the committee recommended that the amendment to Rule 118 be passed with amendments and Rule 234A be omitted as proposed. The proposed amendment to Rule 119 was deferred until the next meeting.
The committee also deferred Questions of Privilege moved by Makhdoom Syed Sami ul Hassan Gillani due to the non-availability of the mover.
The committee adopted the report of the sub-committee constituted under the convenership of MNA Azhar Qayyum Nahra.
A number of MNAs, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, and senior officials of the Ministries of Parliamentary Affairs and Law and Justice and FIA attended the meeting.
