PNS Moawin seizes large cache of narcotics in North Arabian Sea

Islamabad: Pakistan Navy Ship (PNS) Moawin seized a large cache of narcotics during a counter-narcotics operation in North Arabian Sea.

The seized narcotics are estimated to be worth approximately $ 1 million in international market, said a news release issued by Directorate of Public Relations (Pak Navy) on Wednesday.

The cache was being transported via sea to international destinations. During the operation, PNS Moawin, supported by Pakistan Navy air assets, successfully intercepted a Dhow, conducted boarding operations, and apprehended the narcotics, which were stowed in a hidden compartment of the vessel, it further said.

The successful execution of this anti-narcotics operation demonstrates Pakistan Navy's vigilance, professionalism, and resolve to deter and disrupt all illegal activities, ensuring good order at sea.

Saudi Stock Exchange ends trading higher UAF Entomology Chairman retires

Faisalabad: Chairman Department of Entomology and Principal Officer Public Relations and Publications University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) Prof Dr Muhammad Jalal Arif has retired after attaining the age of superannuation.

He served the university for 34 years at various posts from lecturer to professor in addition to performing administrative duties.

Dr Jalal Arif joined the university in January 1990 as lecturer and promoted to the post of professor.

He served as Chairman of Entomology Department for three terms and worked as PO PRP for the period of 14 years.

Meanwhile, Dr Muhammad Tayyab from Department of Entomology UAF has been assigned the duties of Principal Officer Public Relations and Publications (PRP) and he has also taken over the charge of his office, a spokesman of the university said here on Wednesday.

IRSA releases 28,000 cusecs water


Islamabad: Indus River System Authority (IRSA) on Wednesday released 28,000 cusecs water from various rim stations with inflow of 39,400 cusecs.



According to the data released by IRSA, water level in River Indus at Tarbela Dam was 1472.53 feet and was 74.53 feet higher than its dead level of 1,398 feet. Water inflow and outflow in the dam was recorded as 16,600 cusecs and 6,000 cusecs respectively.



The water level in River Jhelum at Mangla Dam was 1132.85 feet, which was 82.85 feet higher than its dead level of 1,050 feet. The inflow and outflow of water was recorded 4,800 cusecs and 4,000 cusecs respectively.



The release of water at Kalabagh, Taunsa , Guddu and Sukkur was recorded as 22,300, 17,200, 17,300 and 1,100 cusecs respectively. Similarly, from River Kabul, a total of 11,700 cusecs of water released at Nowshera and 6,300 cusecs released from River Chenab at Marala.

Fire incidents took 11 lives during 2024

Rawalpindi: During the year 2024, a total of 1,768 fire incidents occurred in which 98 people were victimized.

According to the year ender statistics released by the District Emergency Service, Rescue 1122 here on Wednesday, out of the total 98 victims, 11 were died, 36 were seriously injured and 51 were slightly injured.

Rescue firefighters took timely actions in a professional manner and controlled these fire incidents. Rescue service saved a total of about Rs. 1,718.0 million worth of potential damage in these fire incidents.

The major causes of fire incidents included short circuit, carelessness in using cigarettes, gas leakage and gas cylinder explosions.

Rescue Rawalpindi also reported 100 forest fire incidents in the year 2024, the majority of which were controlled by the rescue's timely response.

Four dacoits nabbed, cash, weapons seized

Islamabad: Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police's Shahzad Town station team apprehended four wanted members of a notorious dacoit gang involved in numerous criminal activities, recovering cash, valuables, and weapons used in their crimes, on Wednesday.

According to police spokesperson, the Shahzad Town team used technical and human resources and succeeded in apprehending four wanted members of the snatcher gang.

He said the gang was involved in numerous snatching activities in various areas of twin cities. Police team also recovered cash, six motorbikes, mobile phones and weapons with ammunition used in crime from their possession.

The accused were identified as Usman Ali, Muhammad Tayyab, Bilal Abbasi and Sadam Hussain. Cases were registered against the nabbed accused and further investigation is underway.

DIG Syed Ali Raza also directed officers for an effective crackdown against the accused involved in criminal activities and to take all possible measures to protect the life and property of the citizens.

DIG Raza further said that no criminal element will be allowed to disturb the peace of the people.
