Islamabad: The federal government has approved a significant upgrade in the service structure of the Pakistan Railway Police, fulfilling a long-standing demand of the force by bringing the pay scales of key ranks in line with those of other law enforcement agencies.
The approval was granted under the vision of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and through the efforts of Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, according to an official statement issued on Thursday.
Under the revised structure, the pay scale of Constables has been upgraded from BPS-5 to BPS-7, Head Constables from BPS-7 to BPS-9, and Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) from BPS-9 to BPS-11.
The government said the move is part of its broader institutional reform agenda aimed at improving the welfare and professional standards of the Pakistan Railway Police. Officials expect the revised pay scales to enhance the morale, motivation, and operational performance of the force.
The Pakistan Railway Police welcomed the decision, desc
ribing it as a historic milestone for the organization, and expressed gratitude to Federal Minister Hanif Abbasi for his role in securing the approval.
The statement also noted that recruitment in the Pakistan Railway Police had previously been carried out on a strictly merit-based system under the minister’s directives, strengthening the force’s professional capabilities.
The Pakistan Railway Police is responsible for protecting passengers and their property, safeguarding railway infrastructure, and maintaining security across the country’s rail network.
Inspector General of Pakistan Railway Police said the pay scale upgradation would significantly boost the morale of officers and personnel, enabling them to perform their duties with greater dedication and professionalism.
