Quetta: Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti on Thursday said that the transport sector is the backbone of the economy of the province and the country and the government is prioritizing the solution to the problems being faced by this sector.
He said this while assuring to a delegation of Transporters and representatives of the All Pakistan Mazda Truck Goods Transport Association, led by Parliamentary Secretary Transport Mir Liaquat Ali Lehri called on him here.
In the meeting, issues facing the transport sector in the province, the law and order situation on national highways, commercial activities and issues related to making the freight system more effective were discussed in detail.
Secretary Transport Balochistan Hayat Khan, Special Secretary Home Abdul Salam Khan Achakzai, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Imran Zarkoon and Additional Secretary to the Chief Minister Muhammad Faridun Khan were also present in the meeting.
The delegation included Chairman of All Pakistan Mazda Truck Goods Transport Association Mir Nawab Mengal, prominent transporters Mir Daulat Khan Lehri, representatives of Anjuman Tajran Rahim Kakar, Noor Ahmed Kakar, Haji Yasin Mengal, Noorullah Tareen, Haji Muhammad Ibrahim Benchari, Agha Dadullah, Haji Khalil, Tahir Ahmed Mengal and Agha.
The delegation informed the Chief Minister of Balochistan about the problems being faced by the transporters, traders and goods associations, the difficulties encountered during transportation on highways and various administrative matters related to the transport sector.
On this occasion, Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti assured that the legitimate issues of the transporters would be resolved in a phased manner and instructions have been issued to the relevant departments to take necessary steps in this regard.
Chief Minister said that maintaining law and order situation on national highways is the top priority of the government and instructions have been issued to all relevant institutions to work vigorously to provide a safe environment to passengers, transporters and traders.
He said that making Balochistan’s highways safe, peaceful and functional is essential not only for the people but also for the promotion of commercial and economic activities.
Mir Sarfraz Bugti said that the government would take such steps through continuous consultation with all stakeholders that could further strengthen the transport sector, promote business activities and provide better travel facilities to the people.
The delegation thanked the Chief Minister of Balochistan for the assurance of resolving the issues and addressing the concerns of the transporter community and expressed its determination to continue all possible cooperation with the government.
