Islamabad: The President of the Pakistan Cycling Federation (PCF), Syed Azhar Ali Shah, has announced that the Pakistan Cycling Federation has released its annual event calendar for 2026-27.
According to the calendar, the National Road Cycling Championship will be held in Karachi in October 2026. The championship will feature participation from all affiliated units of the Pakistan Cycling Federation, departmental teams, and provincial teams, said a press release.
Shah said that the Pakistan Cycling Federation has issued instructions to all concerned departmental teams and affiliated units to begin comprehensive preparations for their teams, organize training camps, and provide athletes with regular and modern training so that the best cyclists in the country can be selected purely on merit during the National Championship.
He said that the Pakistan national team for the upcoming Asian Road Cycling Championship will be selected from among the cyclists who demonstrate outstanding performances at the National Road Cycling Championship. A special national training camp will also be organized for the selected athletes, where they will receive modern and high-quality training under the supervision of qualified and experienced coaches of the Pakistan Cycling Federation.
The President of the Pakistan Cycling Federation expressed his confidence that Pakistan would once again deliver an outstanding performance at the Asian Road Cycling Championship and win medals. He noted that Pakistani male and female cyclists have won medals at the last two to three Asian Championships, providing strong evidence of the rising standard of cycling in Pakistan.
Shah said that the top priority of the Pakistan Cycling Federation is to select the country’s best talent for the national team through a transparent and merit-based system and to provide athletes with modern training, high-quality coaching, and the necessary facilities so that they can bring honor to Pakistan at the international level.
He expressed disappointment over the exclusion of cycling from the South Asian Games, saying that Pakistan possesses tremendous cycling talent. Pakistani cyclists have demonstrated their abilities at regional and Asian levels in the past, and with consistent opportunities and preparation according to international standards, they have the full potential to achieve excellent results against strong teams from across the region.
The President of the Pakistan Cycling Federation said that the current performance and speed of Pakistan’s top cyclists are highly encouraging, and that the country’s leading cyclists have the ability to compete effectively at the Asian level. He said that the objective of the Pakistan Cycling Federation is to establish a strong, organized, and merit-based system to develop cyclists capable of winning medals while representing Pakistan at the Asian and international levels.
He further stated that a Pakistani delegation will participate in the World Cycling Championships to be held in Canada in September 2026. The delegation will represent Pakistan at the event and will also participate in the relevant Congress meeting.
Shah said that the Pakistan Cycling Federation will continue its efforts to promote cycling in the country, identify and develop young talent, enhance athlete training, and make Pakistan’s representation at the international level more effective.
He emphasized that Pakistan’s talented cyclists have no shortage of ability; what they need is the right platform, continuous training, and greater opportunities to participate in international competitions.
