Bahawalpur: The Peoples’ Lawyers Forum (PLF) Bahawalpur has paid rich tributes to the founder of the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP), Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, in recognition of his immense contributions to democracy in Pakistan.
A ceremony marking Bhutto’s 98th birthday was held by the forum, where Rai Atiq Nizami, Advocate and President of the PLF Bahawalpur, delivered a speech highlighting Bhutto’s significant role in shaping Pakistan’s political landscape. Nizami emphasized that Bhutto began his political career as a visionary and ideological leader who gave Pakistan the unanimous Constitution of 1973, a cornerstone of the country’s democratic system.
‘Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto remains a shining chapter in Pakistan’s political history,’ said Nizami. He further praised Bhutto for being one of the founders of popular politics in Pakistan, empowering ordinary citizens to make their voices heard in the political arena.
Nizami also recalled Bhutto’s famous slogan, ‘Roti, Kapra aur Makaan’ (Bread, Clothing, and Shelter), which he described not only as a rallying cry for the common man but as a declaration of the people’s rights, sparking political consciousness among the marginalized.
He also lauded Bhutto’s leadership as Prime Minister, noting his pivotal role in establishing Pakistan’s nuclear program, uniting Islamic nations on a common platform, and steering the country’s foreign policy toward self-respect and sovereignty.
