Multan: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) intensified crackdown against food adulteration in Khanewal, seizing unsafe food products and shutting down three food production units for violating food safety regulations.
Acting on the directives of Director General PFA Raja Mansoor Ahmed, food safety teams conducted inspections at several food outlets in Mian Channu, Chowk Bazaar, Wajhianwala, and the old meat market in Jahanian.
During the operation, authorities confiscated and destroyed nearly 100 kilograms (2. 5 maunds) of unhealthy meat and 30 kilograms of substandard dairy products. A case was registered against a meat shop owner after inspectors recovered stale, foul-smelling meat allegedly obtained from diseased animals.
A bakery was ordered to suspend production until improvement after officials found food being prepared under highly unhygienic conditions. Legal action was also initiated against a dairy manufacturing unit after laboratory tests declared its butter sample unfit for consumption and inspectors detected the use of substandard ingredients.
The production at three food units will remain suspended until the operators fully comply with food safety and hygiene standards.
Director General Raja Mansoor Ahmed reiterated that the authority would continue taking strict action against those endangering public health.
