Peshawar: Khyber police foiled a liquor smuggling attempt and arrested a suspect with 231 bottles of alcohol during a special checkpoint operation here on Monday.
Acting on the directions of District Police Officer (DPO) Khyber Waqar Ahmad, SHO Jamrud Siddiq Khan supervised the operation in which incharge Lutf Khan Shaheed Chowki Yar Jan and Tariq Khan intercepted a suspicious vehicle at a checkpoint.
Upon search, the police team recovered 231 bottles of liquor concealed in the vehicle.
The suspect, identified as Nisar Ali, son of Mukamal Shah, resident of Ghundi, was arrested on the spot and shifted to Jamrud police station. A case has been registered against him and further investigation is underway.
DPO Khyber Waqar Ahmad said that indiscriminate operations against drug peddlers and smugglers were ongoing across the district, and no one would be allowed to undermine the law.
He commended the police team for their vigilance and swift action.
