Islamabad: A targeted anti-polio vaccination campaign began in high-risk union councils of Rawalpindi and Islamabad and would continue until August 13. According to the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC). in Rawalpindi. polio teams would administer oral polio vaccine (OPV) to around 753. 000 children under five across 130 high-risk union councils.
In federal capital. approximately 2. 89. 000 children in 40 high-risk union councils would be vaccinated during the campaign.
The NEOC urged parents to ensure that all children under the age of five receive polio drops during every campaign. stressing that repeated vaccination was essential for complete protection against the crippling disease.
It said that three polio cases had been confirmed across the country so far this year. underscoring the need for continued vigilance and vaccination.
‘Polio is an incurable disease. but it is preventable through vaccination. ‘ the NEOC said. adding that the success of the eradication effort depended on close cooperation among parents. communities and polio vaccination teams.
The NEOC also urged parents to ensure that their children complete their routine immunization schedule on time alongside receiving polio drops.
