Polling underway in Sindh Assembly constituency PS-30 Khairpur-V


Karachi: Polling is underway on Sunday in the by-election for Sindh Assembly constituency PS-30 Khairpur-V, which comprises the Gambat and Sobhodero tehsils of Khairpur district. According to a communique issued by the Provincial Election Commission of Sindh here, a total of 254, 980 registered voters are eligible to cast their ballots in the constituency.



They include 133, 037 male and 121, 943 female voters. The Election Commission has established 164 polling stations comprising 53 male 52 female and 59 combined polling stations.



Of these, 64 have been declared highly sensitive, 68 sensitive and 32 normal.



A total of eight independent candidates, including Pakistan Peoples Party candidate Barrister Asfandyar Khan Kharl, are contesting the by-election.



The Provincial Election Commissioner of Sindh Eijaz Anwar Chauhan has issued strict directives to the Commissioner of Sukkur Division, DIG Sukkur Region, District Returning Officer, District Monitoring Officer, Returning Officer and other relevant institutions and law-enforcement agencies to ensure free, fair and peaceful conduct of the by-election.



He directed the police and other security agencies to remain on high alert, stressing that the Election Commission was committed to conducting the by-election in a neutral and impartial manner.



He warned that any irregularity, violation of electoral rules or administrative negligence would not be tolerated. The PS-30 seat fell vacant following the death of Pakistan People’s Party MPA Naeem Ahmed Kharl.
