Lahore: A meeting of the Board of Governors of the Center of Excellence for Countering Extremism reviewed measures to prevent extremism and promote peace and tolerance across Punjab.
Officers of the Center of Excellence for Countering Extremism gave a detailed presentation on measures being taken to prevent extremism. The meeting directed the organization of awareness seminars on eliminating extremism in educational institutions across Punjab.
The Board of Governors expressed satisfaction with the performance of the Center and approved the minutes of its third meeting. Implementation of decisions taken during the previous meeting was also reviewed, while the Center’s performance during the last five months was presented.
The meeting discussed in detail the drafting of rules for the Center of Excellence for Countering Extremism and its communication strategy.
Provincial Minister and Chairman Cabinet Committee on Law and Order Khawaja Salman Rafique said the institution was playing a vital role in the current situation in the country. He said the Punjab government was making concerted efforts to eliminate extremism and establish a peaceful society.
He termed the establishment of the Center of Excellence for Countering Extremism by Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif a highly welcome step, adding that practical measures were being taken through the institution to address the challenges posed by extremism.
Secretary Home Department Dr. Ahmed Javed Qazi said youth and civil society had a key role in promoting peace, tolerance and forbearance in society. He said the Center of Excellence was working in collaboration with all stakeholders to eliminate extremism.
He stressed that all segments of society must play their role in creating a peaceful, prosperous and bright Pakistan.
