Faisalabad: Divisional Commissioner Dr Imran Hamid Sheikh said that three major public welfare schemes costing Rs1. 11 billion have been approved to overhaul Faisalabad’s drainage and sewerage infrastructure by targeting long-standing civic problems in several densely populated areas of the city.
Chairing a meeting of Divisional Development Working Party (DDWP) at Deputy Commissioner’s Office, he said that Rs380 million would be spent for upgradation of drainage system in Faisalabad city, aimed at improving the capacity and efficiency of the existing network and providing better management of storm and wastewater.
Another scheme would be completed with an estimated cost of Rs330 million for rehabilitation of sewerage systems in Shadab Colony, Muhammad Pura, Badar Colony, Dar-ul-Ehsan Town, Talianwala, Jhang Road and other adjoining settlements along Narwala Road.
Similarly, Rs400 million would be spent for construction and rehabilitation of a sludge carrier from Risalay Wala Road to Dejkot seepage drain. The project is intended to improve the disposal and conveyance of sewage sludge and strengthen overall wastewater management infrastructure of the city, he added.
He said that the drainage system upgradation project would be completed by March 31, 2027 while the sewerage rehabilitation scheme would be completed by December 31, 2026. The sludge carrier project has been given a completion deadline of June 30, 2027, he added.
Divisional Commissioner Dr Imran Hamid Sheikh directed the concerned departments and executing agencies to ensure timely completion of all three projects. Unnecessary delays would defeat the purpose of schemes designed specifically to address citizens’ longstanding sewerage and drainage problems, he added.
