Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Waste Management Company(RWMC) has launched a comprehensive sanitation operation to ensure a zero-waste environment for the main Chehlum procession of the martyrs of Karbala, carrying out extensive cleaning and disinfection along the procession route and adjoining areas.
The operation includes mechanical sweeping, washing of roads, lime sprinkling, desilting of drains, cleaning of waste containers and disinfectant spraying on the main procession route, around Imambargahs, adjoining streets and surrounding localities to provide mourners with a clean, safe and healthy environment.
Chief Executive Officer of the RWMC, Rana Sajid Safdar, reviewed the sanitation arrangements and said all leave of sanitation staff had been cancelled, while additional personnel had been deployed to ensure smooth execution of the operation.
He said workers would remain deployed throughout the procession, while a comprehensive clean-up operation would be carried out immediately after its conclusion to restore the entire route to a zero-waste condition.
Rana said special sanitation arrangements had been made along the entire procession route, including Colonel Maqbool Imambargah, Committee Chowk, College Road, Bird Market, Raja Bazaar, Bara Market, Old Qila, Jamia Masjid Road, Qadeemi Imambargah, Bani Chowk and Kartarpura.
He appealed to citizens to cooperate with sanitation workers by avoiding littering, placing waste in bags and disposing of it in designated containers or at collection points.
The CEO said maintaining a clean city was a shared responsibility and that the vision of a Clean Punjab could only be achieved through public cooperation.
