Lahore: Secretary Local Government Punjab Zaid bin Maqsood visited Narowal and Shakargarh to review the progress of development projects being executed under the Punjab Development Program (PDP).
Project Director Punjab Development Program, Shahid Zaman Lak and Deputy Commissioner(DC) Narowal Muhammad Tayyab accompanied the secretary during the visit.
According to a spokesperson of LG Department, Assistant Project Director Abu Bakar Khan briefed the secretary on the ongoing development schemes, completed works and future course of action under the Punjab Development Program in Narowal and Shakargarh.
The briefing was informed that development projects worth Rs. 5. 2 billion were under way in Narowal under the Punjab Development Program, while schemes worth Rs. 7 billion were being executed in Shakargarh.
The projects include underground water storage tanks, drainage infrastructure and other essential municipal facilities aimed at improving urban services and addressing drainage and water-disposal issues, particularly during the monsoon season.
The secretary was further briefed that three underground water storage tanks had been completed in Narowal and two in Shakargarh, while work on other development schemes was progressing according to the prescribed targets.
Mr. Zaid inspected the completed storage tanks and other development works and reviewed progress on the ongoing schemes.
He appreciated the Narowal team for completing the storage tanks and other essential works before the monsoon.
He said the timely completion of the storage tanks was commendable and directed the concerned authorities to ensure effective arrangements in the field to provide maximum relief to citizens during the monsoon.
The secretary directed the officials to minimize inconvenience to the public during execution of development works and ensure timely restoration of all areas excavated for construction activities.
He also stressed effective field monitoring of ongoing works, continuous quality checks and completion of projects within the stipulated timelines. He made it clear that no compromise would be made on the quality of development works.
Mr. Zaid said the primary objective of the Punjab Development Program was to provide better municipal facilities to citizens and ensure that the benefits of development schemes reached the public without delay.
He directed the concerned officers to further strengthen field monitoring, regularly report progress on ongoing schemes and immediately address any hurdles to ensure timely completion of the projects.
The secretary said monitoring of development schemes under the Punjab Development Program would be further accelerated to ensure timely completion of projects of public importance and provision of better, safer and more efficient municipal services to citizens.
