Sargodha: Secretary Social Welfare and Baitul Maal Punjab Saira Umar visited here on Tuesday and reviewed various sub-institutions of the Social Welfare Department and under-construction development projects on the spot. She began her visit by inspecting the new building of the Divisional Social Welfare Complex. The Secretary Social Welfare conducted a detailed inspection of various departments and branches of the complex and took a briefing from the concerned officers and employees about their responsibilities, ongoing activities and service delivery. She directed that the quality of services provided to the public should be further improved and the performance of institutions should be monitored effectively.
Saira Umar also paid a detailed visit to the Industrial Estate, where she reviewed the Women’s Handicraft and Training Center, various departments and training activities. She met the girls under training and got information about their training programs and facilities. She directed that the display in the institution should be further improved, the products made by the students should be highlighted and people should be informed about the activities of the institution in a modern and effective manner.
She also met the girls learning makeup, sewing, embroidery and other skills and reviewed the products they have made. The Secretary Social Welfare directed that e-commerce and digital accounts should be created for the girls who had completed the training and they should be linked to online platforms so that they could better advertise and sell the products they have made. She said that making skilled women economically independent by providing them access to the market was the need of hour. The Secretary Social Welfare also visited the shelter and reviewed the accommodation, food, cleanliness and other basic facilities provided to the deserving people there. She took a briefing from the staff about the arrangements and directed that no negligence would be tolerated in providing facilities to the deserving people.
Saira Umar also visited the Shelter Home/Women Crisis Center and reviewed the facilities, security and other services provided to the women residing there. She took a briefing from the staff concerned and directed to make the measures for the welfare and protection of women more effective. She visited the Modern Children’s Home and met the girls and distributed gifts to them. She also attended the birthday party of two children at the Boys’ Children’s Home and cut a cake with the children. She mingled with the children and got information about their problems, education and facilities provided. Saira Umar also visited the Protection Center, Old Age Home and other ongoing projects under the ADP. She inspected the ongoing construction work on the under-construction projects and took a briefing from the concerned authorities about the progress of the projects. She directed to complete the construction work at a fast pace as per the set standards and to avoid unnecessary delays in the completion of the projects.
He also inspected the under-construction multipurpose hall and was briefed about the pace and quality of the construction work. The Secretary Social Welfare also visited Medical Social Services, Civil Hospital, where doctors and related staff briefed him about the social and medical support and other services provided to the patients. On the occasion, Secretary Social Welfare and Baitul Maal Saira Umar said that according to the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, putting women on their feet was one of the main priorities of the Punjab government. Along with teaching skills to women and girls in social welfare training institutions, they were also being connected to modern markets and digital platforms so that they could turn their skills into a source of income. She said that social welfare institutions should improve their services and activities according to modern requirements instead of working only in the traditional way. The achievements of the people trained in the institutions and the produ
cts produced should be effectively publicized so that more employment and business opportunities were created for them. The Secretary Social Welfare also planted a sapling as part of the tree plantation campaign during her visit. On this occasion, Director Social Welfare Shakira Noreen and Deputy Director Zebun-Nissa accompanied her.
