Larkana: Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU), Larkana, organized a grand and dignified ceremony at Chandka Medical College on Wednesday to commemorate Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day.
The ceremony was attended by university and college administrators, faculty members, students, employees, distinguished citizens, and guests from various walks of life.
The ceremony commenced with the national anthem. Students presented patriotic national songs, while children from Sweet Home delivered a beautiful tableau performance that was warmly appreciated by the audience.
A particularly inspiring segment featured two visually impaired students of Special Education and Rehabilitation, Anees Rehman and Bisma Soomro, who presented national songs. Their remarkable performance received a standing ovation from the audience.
Addressing the ceremony, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Nusrat Shah said Pakistan was a great blessing and a precious gift for its people. She highlighted the historic role of Sindh in the Pakistan Movement, noting that the then Sindh Legislative Assembly had passed a resolution in favour of the creation of Pakistan.
Paying tribute to the national leadership, she said that Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto gave Pakistan its first Constitution, while Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto made the ultimate sacrifice for the protection and strengthening of democracy in the country, she added.
The Vice Chancellor further said that Chandka Medical College was a gift from Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, while the university was a dream envisioned by Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. She expressed pride in the university’s academic legacy, stating that nearly 90 percent of its faculty members were graduates of the same institution.
Chairman District Council Larkana, Ijaz Ahmed Laghari, said that Pakistan’s independence was achieved through immense sacrifices. Addressing the students, he said that the responsibility of leading the country would soon be entrusted to the younger generation.
Vice Chancellor University of Larkano, Professor Naik Muhammad Shaikh, said that Independence Day conveyed a message of unity, brotherhood and national solidarity.
Addressing the students, he urged them to become physicians dedicated to serving humanity rather than pursuing commercial interests, emphasizing that the medical profession should be guided by compassion, commitment and service to society.
Students awarded cash prizes for their performances, as part of the Independence Day celebrations, while a cake-cutting ceremony was also held.
In recognition of their artistic and creative performances, all students who participated in the programme were awarded Rs. 10, 000 cash prize. The prizes were jointly presented by Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University and Chairman District Council Larkana, Ijaz Ahmed Laghari. The ceremony was attended by Dean Professor Dr. Shahida Magsi, Professor Hakim Ali Abro, Principal Dental College, Professor Qaimuddin Shaikh, Principal College of Medical Technology, Professor Ali Haider Baloch, Director Institute of Physiotherapy Dr. Mukesh Kumar, Principal College of Nursing Nazir Ahmed Buriro, Professor Shabnam Naz, Principal Nursing School Dr. Sakina Gad, along with a large number of faculty members, officers and students.
The celebrations concluded with a special musical programme, in which students participated enthusiastically and enjoyed the festive atmosphere. The event reflected SMBBMU’s commitment to promoting patriotism, national unity, democratic values, creativity and the spirit of service among its students and academic community.
