Karachi: Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) in collaboration with the Business Incubation Center (BIC), the Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) SMIU, and the Faculty of Information Technology hosted TechFest 3. 0, exhibition and evaluation on Tuesday.
The ceremony was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Jamshed Adil, Dean of the Faculty of Management, Business Administration and Commerce, Prof. Stephen John, Dean of the Faculty of Education, and Prof. Dr. Abdul Hafeez Khan, Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology.
This event brought together students from the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Mathematical Sciences (AIMS), the Department of Computer Science, and the Department of Software Engineering. The event provided a platform for graduating students to present their capstone projects for live evaluation by a panel of industry experts.
The participants from all three departments set up project stalls across the exhibition floor, demonstrating working prototypes, AI mode
ls, software systems, and applied research spanning artificial intelligence, machine learning, cybersecurity, mobile and web application development, and emerging software engineering practices.
Industry professionals moved from stall to stall, engaging directly with students, questioning their design choices, and evaluating projects against criteria of innovation, technical rigor, and real-world applicability.
The exhibition underscored SMIU’s continued commitment to outcome-based, industry-aligned education, giving students a rare opportunity to receive direct, unfiltered feedback from working professionals before entering the job market.
Talking on the occasion Prof. Dr. Jamshed Adil congratulated the participating departments on the quality and diversity of the projects on display, noting that events like TechFest reflect the university’s push toward cross-disciplinary thinking, where technical excellence is paired with an understanding of real-world business and management value.

ommended the organizing departments for creating a platform that goes beyond the classroom, observing that such exhibitions build students’ confidence, communication skills, and ability to defend their work – qualities essential to their growth as professionals.
Prof. Dr. Abdul Hafeez Khan, Dean praised the students and faculty of the AI, Computer Science, and Software Engineering departments for their hard work throughout the semester, stating that TechFest 3. 0 stood as clear evidence of the technical depth and innovative capacity within the Faculty of IT, and reaffirmed the faculty’s commitment to strengthening industry linkages so that student projects continue to translate into real-world impact.
