Rawalpindi: Suthra Punjab Agency Rawalpindi conducted special cleanliness operations around mosques across the city and tehsils on Friday, along with lime sprinkling as part of efforts to maintain a clean environment.
Under the anti-smog campaign, roads in different areas were washed and swept during the day and night, while scraping was also carried out along roadsides to remove accumulated dust and help reduce air pollution.
On the directions of Managing Director Suthra Punjab Agency Rawalpindi Rana Sajid Safdar, anti-littering squads remained active across the city. The squads conducted 270 inspections in areas including Kuri Road, Gulzar-e-Quaid, Waris Khan, Holy Family Hospital(HFH) Road, Union Council 19 and Sixth Road. Warning notices were issued to 20 people for violating cleanliness regulations.
Citizens, shopkeepers and business operators were also advised not to throw waste on roads or burn garbage.
Meanwhile, the agency’s communication team conducted an anti-smog and anti-littering awareness campaign at mosques. Informational pamphlets were distributed among worshippers, while imams were requested to highlight cleanliness, proper waste disposal, avoiding garbage burning and measures to control smog during their sermons.
Rana Sajid Safdar said field operations were being further strengthened to provide citizens with a clean and pollution-free environment. He said road washing, sweeping and scraping were continuing regularly as part of anti-smog measures, while anti-littering squads had been directed to take effective action across the city.
He said cleanliness was not the sole responsibility of government agencies and public cooperation was equally essential. Citizens should avoid littering and burning waste in public places, keep their surroundings clean and cooperate with sanitation workers.
The MD said mosques could play an important role in spreading messages about cleanliness, anti-smog measures and prevention of littering, making the cooperation of imams particularly important.
Suthra Punjab Agency Rawalpindi, he added, remained active in the field to provide citizens with a clean, healthy and better environment.
