Chiniot: Deputy Commissioner Ayesha Rizwan on Thursday carried out surprise inspections of health facilities in Chiniot, reviewing medical and administrative arrangements and directing officials to ensure quality, timely and uninterrupted healthcare services for patients.

Accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Wasiq Abbas Haral and Chief Executive Officer (Health) Dr Ahmed Khan, the deputy commissioner visited the Maryam Nawaz Health Clinics at Jhanb and Harsa Sheikh on Lahore Road. She inspected doctors’ and staff attendance, the availability of medicines, the functioning of medical equipment, cleanliness standards and the facilities being provided to patients.

During the visits, Ayesha Rizwan met patients to receive first-hand feedback on healthcare services and instructed the relevant officials to ensure effective implementation of the Punjab government’s directives for delivering quality medical care without interruption.

The deputy commissioner also reviewed progress on the under-construction building of the Maryam Nawaz Health Clinic at Harsa Sheikh and received a briefing from the Chief Executive Officer (Health). She directed the authorities to expedite construction so the facility could become operational at the earliest, reiterating that the provision of quality healthcare is a key priority of the Punjab government and that no negligence would be tolerated.

Astore: Chief Judge of the Supreme Appellate Court of Gilgit-Baltistan, Sardar Muhammad Shamim Khan, on Thursday issued a detailed judgment in the case of Zakir Hussain vs. Fida Muhammad Nashad (candidate for GBA-9 Skardu-III), upholding the decision of the Election Appellate Tribunal, which had disqualified Fida Muhammad Nashad for concealing assets.

The Court set aside the order of the Chief Court Gilgit-Baltistan dated May 25, through which the Election Appellate Tribunal’s decision disqualifying Fida Muhammad Nashad had been suspended and the Returning Officer’s acceptance of his nomination papers had been maintained.

After a detailed examination of the record and revenue documents, the Supreme Appellate Court held that in his nomination papers submitted to the Returning Officer on April 20, Fida Muhammad Nashad had disclosed only two properties: a

one-fifth share in Mashabram Hotel and a house plot. However, he failed to declare valuable properties and land situated in Mouza Jutial (Gilgit), Mouza Olding (Skardu), Mouza Thowar, and Dambudas Rondu, despite being their owner.

In its observations, the Court stated that the Election Appellate Tribunal had rightly disqualified Fida Muhammad Nashad in accordance with the law for concealing assets, making false declarations, and violating the mandatory provisions of the Election Act, rendering him ineligible under Article 62(1)(f) of the Constitution of Pakistan for not being Sadiq and Ameen.

The judgment further held that the Chief Court had exceeded its constitutional jurisdiction by allowing the writ petition against the final decision of the Election Appellate Tribunal without any sound legal justification.

The Supreme Appellate Court also clarified that the issue of concealment of assets can be raised at any stage and that the Returning Officer’s approval of nomination papers without proper scrutiny was contrary to the spirit of the law.

Accordingly, the Court declared the Chief Court’s decision null and void and directed that a copy of its judgment be forwarded to the Chief Election Commissioner Gilgit-Baltistan for immediate legal action.

Kohat: Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Rana Tahir on Thursday reviewed the investigation into the alleged murder of a woman in the Bilitang Police Station jurisdiction, directing investigators to conduct a transparent, merit-based inquiry and expedite the arrest of the suspect.

The ASP visited the crime scene to inspect evidence and received a detailed briefing from the investigation team on the progress of the case. He instructed officers to make full use of modern forensic techniques and all available resources to ensure the accused is apprehended and brought before the court. Later, he visited the victim’s family to offer condolences and assured them that police were pursuing the investigation from every possible angle. A case has been registered against the suspect, who remains at large, while efforts to arrest him are continuing.

In a separate development, SP Traffic Kohat Shah Hassan Khan visited the Kohat Police Driving School to review its training facilities and ongoing programmes. During the inspection, he examined classrooms, training vehicles, driving tracks and other facilities, and received a briefing on the school’s theoretical and practical driver training system.

Emphasising the importance of road safety, the SP Traffic directed instructors to ensure trainees receive comprehensive education on traffic laws, defensive driving and responsible road behaviour. Expressing satisfaction with the school’s performance and arrangements, he said such initiatives would help strengthen traffic management and promote safer driving practices across the district.

Multan: Newly-appointed Chairman Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Dr Ejaz Ahmad, on Thursday, pledged to modernise the board and ensure complete transparency and merit in its affairs during his first introductory meeting with senior officials.

Secretary BISE Khurram Shahzad Qureshi and Controller Examinations Dr Imran Ahmad briefed the chairman on their respective departments. Dr Ejaz said the board’s top priority would be a 100 per cent transparent examination system, with zero tolerance for recommendations, malpractice and unfair means.

He directed officials to facilitate students and parents by reducing unnecessary procedural hurdles, ensuring timely redressal of complaints, and introducing IT-based systems from paper marking to result preparation to minimise human error. He also stressed stricter monitoring to eliminate cheating and said honest and hardworking officers would receive full support.

Secretary Khurram Shahzad Qureshi and Controller of Examinations Dr Imran Ahmad assured the chairman of their full cooperation in implementing reforms, improving transparency and providing better services to students.

Rawalpindi: A local court on Thursday has awarded the death sentence along with a fine of Rs. 1.0 million to a criminal, Abdul Mueez, who shot and killed a citizen over a financial dispute.

According to the details, a murder case was registered against the convict at the Peerwadhai Police Station in February 2024.

Following an investigation based on forensic evidence and rigorous prosecution by police, the court announced the punishment, marking a victory for justice and providing closure to the victim’s family, said a police spokesman.

Sargodha: Regional Election Commissioner Sargodha Division and Delimitation Authority Abrar Ahmed Jatoi on Thursday continued the process of hearing various objections filed against the recent constituency delimitations across the division.

According to official sources, a total of 152 objections were received from the four districts of the Sargodha division, which include 83 appeals from Sargodha district, 37 from Khushab, 26 from Bhakkar, and six from Mianwali.

The delimitation authority has reportedly completed the hearing for 82 out of the 83 appeals filed from Sargodha district, while one specific case has been adjourned until July 22. Following the conclusion of the Sargodha-based cases, the commission has initiated hearings for the 37 appeals submitted from Khushab district, a process scheduled to remain in progress from July 10 to July 14, 2026.

Sources further stated that the objections related to Mianwali and Bhakkar districts would be taken up subsequently in accordance with the established schedule. The hearings are being conducted on a daily basis to ensure a transparent and timely resolution of the delimitation grievances within the regional jurisdiction.
