Mirpur (ajk): Several prominent political leaders and local figures in Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s Constituency-IV (Khari Sharif) have joined the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), a move political observers say could strengthen the party’s position ahead of the July 27 general elections.

The announcement was made at a political gathering held in support of PML-N candidate Chaudhry Rukhsar Ahmed.

The figures joining the party included District Council Chairman Raja Naveed Akhtar Goga, former District Council member Mirza Muzaffar Hussain Numberdar, District Council member Chaudhry Banaras Azam, Union Council Sahang Chairman Chaudhry Irfaq Shaki, Mangla-based political figure Chaudhry Siraj-ul-Haq, political and social activist Chaudhry Shakir, and Raja Mohsin of Ghaseet Pur Rajgan, along with hundreds of supporters.

The event was attended by Federal Minister Engineer Amir Muqam, former National Assembly member Chaudhry Abid Raza Kotla, PML-N Azad Kashmir General Secretary Chaudhry Tariq Farooq, Mirpur District President Chaudhry Javed Qadir, District Council member Mirza Ilyas, Raja Sabteen, Chaudhry Riaz, Chaudhry Sherbaz, Chaudhry Nawaz and other party leaders, according to party officials.

Speaking at the gathering, the PML-N leaders welcomed the new members and said their inclusion would reinforce the party’s organizational strength and improve its electoral prospects in Constituency-IV.

The Independent political analysts said the decision by several influential political families and local leaders to join PML-N could alter the political dynamics in the constituency and provide the party with momentum ahead of the upcoming elections.

Tarbela: Deputy Commissioner Haripur Islahuddin and District Police Officer (DPO) Shafiullah Gandapur on Thursday visited the Tarbela Dam T-5 Project at Tarbela Ghazi to review the progress of the strategic development project, security arrangements for foreign experts, and the construction status of the Ghazi Police Facilitation Centre.

During the visit, WAPDA officials briefed the officers on the overall progress of the project and the security measures in place for the installation and operational activities.

The Deputy Commissioner and the DPO directed the relevant authorities to ensure foolproof security for foreign experts, engineers and project staff, enhance surveillance at sensitive locations, strengthen inter-agency coordination, and further improve the effectiveness of joint search operations to maintain a secure working environment.

The visiting officials also inspected the under-construction Ghazi Police Facilitation Centre and instructed the concerned authorities to complete the project within the stipulated timeframe to enable the provision of modern and efficient police services to the public under one roof.

The visit underscored the district administration’s commitment to ensuring the timely completion of key development projects while maintaining robust security arrangements for national infrastructure and public service facilities.

Sialkot: The University of Sialkot (USKT) conducted its 10th Board of Advanced Studies and Research (BASR) meeting under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman.

The meeting was attended by Director BASR Prof. Dr. Kausar Abbas, along with HODs,Deans,Directors, and Faculty Members.

Distinguished external members included Vice Chancellor IISAT Gujranwala, Prof. Dr. Zarrin Fatima Rizvi, Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, IISAT Gujranwala Prof. Dr. Riasat Ali, Faculty Member, Faculty of Computing and IT, IISAT Gujranwala Prof. Dr. Aihab Khan and Chairperson, Department of Management Sciences, University of Gujrat Prof. Dr. Ashfaq Ahmed.

MS and PhD researchers presented their proposals,which were critically reviewed by the Board. The session focused on strengthening research quality, innovation and industry relevance.

The Vice Chancellor emphasized the adoption of experimental techniques and evidence-based research to ensure impact full and authentic scholarly contributions.

Larkana: A crucial meeting was held in the Court Hall of the Deputy Commissioner Office Qambar, under the Deputy Commissioner Qambar Shahdadkot, Kamran Hussain Mushtaq, to finalize the arrangements for the polio campaign scheduled to commence from August 6 to August 13.

The meeting was attended by officials from relevant government departments and doctors, including Dr. Gulzar Ali Tunio, District Health Officer on Thursday.

On this occasion, Dr. Farid Lark (National Stop Officer), while briefed the participants, stated that there were a total of 72 Union Councils (UCs) in Qambar Shahdadkot district, out of which 16 UCs have a target of 142,807 children. Within this target, children under the age of ten would be administered anti-polio drops, while children aged between four months and ten years would be given injectable polio vaccine (IPV) for protection against the disease.

Deputy Commissioner Qambar Shahdadkot issued directives, said that all stakeholders and officials in the district must work together to make the polio booster dose campaign 100 percent successful, so that Qambar Shahdadkot district becomes polio-free. He further stated that any negligence or dereliction of duty in this campaign would absolutely not be tolerated. Addressing the people of the district, the Deputy Commissioner appealed to them to protect their precious little children by administering the drops in this polio booster dose campaign, saving them from lifelong disability.

Sargodha: The Punjab Highway Patrol Police on Thursday promoted five head constables to the next rank of Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) across the region.

SP Highway Patrol Police Farrukh Sohail promoted Head Constables Aftab Ahmed, Saqib Hameed, Muhammad Fayyaz, Muhammad Arshad, and Ghulam Mustafa to the rank of ASI.

Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sargodha Muhammad Shehzad Asif Khan formally pinned the promotion rank badges on the newly promoted officers.

On the occasion, the RPO congratulated the promotees and advised them to perform their duties with devotion, dedication, and professionalism.

Faisalabad: Samanabad police have claimed to solve blind murder case of a young man by tracing the accused involved in an alleged honey trap and arrested a woman on charge of luring the victim to the crime scene.

Police spokesman said that the murder of Usman in Samanabad area was initially shrouded in mystery but subsequent investigations revealed that the killing stemmed from an old enmity.

He said that the accused allegedly used a woman to befriend the victim through social media before luring him into a planned ambush.

The investigation revealed that the woman, identified as Seemab Bibi, established contact with the victim through social media after being introduced by members of the rival group. She later invited Usman to a designated location through WhatsApp.

He said that when the victim reached the spot, three unidentified armed assailants, who had already been lying in wait, opened fire on him due to previous enmity, killing him on the spot before fleeing the scene.

Station House Officer (SHO) Samanabad police station Talash Abbas successfully traced the accused by using technical and digital investigative resources.

As a result, police arrested Seemab Bibi, who had allegedly played a key role in executing the honey trap that led to the murder.

The police started further interrogation of the arrested woman to gather additional evidence and identify the remaining accused involved in the crime while raids are being conducted to arrest the three armed accomplices who are still at large, he added.
