Sanghar: The Population Welfare Department organised mega camps across Sanghar district on Saturday to mark World Population Day, offering women free family planning services, including permanent and temporary contraceptive procedures, counselling and reproductive healthcare.

The camps were established at Reproductive Health Services A (RHSA) centres in Sanghar, Shahdadpur, Tando Adam, Khipro and Sinjhoro, where specialist lady doctors and trained medical staff provided modern contraceptive methods, free medicines and awareness sessions on reproductive health, maternal and child wellbeing, and responsible family planning.

The main ceremony was held at the RHSA Centre in Tando Adam and was inaugurated by Director General of Population Welfare Sindh Shahabuddin Memon and District Population Welfare Officer Asghar Ali Arain.

Speaking to the media, Memon, Arain and Bridge Consultant District Manager Ali Sher Dahri said that World Population Day aimed to raise public awareness about balanced population growth, maternal and child health, and the importance of informed family planning. They said the department remained committed to expanding access to quality reproductive healthcare services and promoting healthy families through modern family planning programmes.

Among those present on the occasion were Medical Superintendent of Taluka Hospital Tando Adam Ghulam Ali Samoon, Medical Officer Dr Sanghar Zaib, Naveed Hisbani, Zulfiqar Ali Bugti, Yar Mohammad Baloch, Saleem Brohi, Akhtar Soomro and other officials and healthcare personnel.

Attock: Rescue 1122 Attock on Saturday conducted its fourth pre-flood mock exercise for Flood Season 2026 at the Shadi Khan point on the Indus River to test emergency response capabilities and enhance preparedness for potential flooding during the monsoon season.

The exercise was held under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Dr. Mudassir Ali Shah in line with the Punjab government’s directives on flood preparedness. District Emergency Officer Dr. Mian Muhammad Ashfaq briefed the deputy commissioner on the district’s flood emergency plan, available rescue resources, deployment of rescue boats and trained divers, emergency response teams, and coordination mechanisms among relevant departments.

During the simulation, Rescue 1122 personnel demonstrated flood response operations, including the evacuation of stranded residents by boats, rescue of drowning victims, provision of first aid, transportation of the injured to hospitals and the implementation of standard emergency rescue procedures. Representatives of other departments also demonstrated their respective emergency response roles and reaffirmed their commitment to coordinated action during any flood emergency.

Deputy Commissioner Dr. Mudassir Ali Shah praised the preparedness and professionalism of Rescue 1122 and expressed satisfaction with the district’s flood response arrangements. He directed all concerned departments to remain on high alert throughout the monsoon season to ensure a swift response and safeguard lives and property in the event of flooding.

Multan: Muhammad Nawaz Sharif University of Engineering and Technology (MNSUET), Multan has received a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to launch an MS Computer Science program.

University officials said the approval was achieved under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Tauseef Aized.

The Department of Computer Science, Registrar Office, Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) and other university faculty and staff contributed to securing the approval, officials said.

The MS Computer Science program will provide opportunities for higher education and research in the field of technology, they added.

Kohat: A young man was killed in a firing incident near the Diwan Khas wedding hall on Hangu Road in Kohat on Saturday, rescue officials said.

The victim was identified as Asfandiyar, who died after being shot in the area. Rescue teams responded to the incident, but he was pronounced dead.

Authorities have not yet disclosed details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting, the identity of those involved or a possible motive behind the attack.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the facts of the case and identify those responsible for the killing.

Muzaffwrgarh: Police arrested a man for allegedly making a fake robbery call in an attempt to implicate his rivals in a false criminal case,officials said on Saturday.

According to police,District Police Officer (DPO) Muzaffargarh,Syed Ghazanfar Ali Shah took notice of a purported robbery call received through the police helpline within the jurisdiction of Khairpur Sadat police station and directed Alipur DSP Ullah Yar Saifi to reach the spot.

The DSP arrived at the scene around 3am, where local police had already launched an inquiry into the reported incident.

During the investigation,police claimed that the caller, identified as Muhammad Bilal, had fabricated the robbery story to falsely implicate his rivals and have a criminal case registered against them.

On the directives of the DPO,Bilal was taken into custody and a case was registered against him.

Police officials said furnishing false information to law enforcement agencies was a punishable offense and warned that strict legal action would be taken against anyone found misusing emergency services or attempting to mislead police.

Kohat: Deputy Commissioner Kohat on Saturday directed authorities to launch a strict crackdown on illegal mining, particularly unauthorized placer gold extraction, during a high-level meeting attended by senior officials from the district administration, police, and the Mines and Minerals and Forest departments.

Officials briefed the meeting on the extent of illegal mining activities and the challenges faced in curbing the practice. The deputy commissioner instructed the relevant departments to take immediate legal action against those involved and strengthen enforcement efforts to prevent unauthorized extraction of mineral resources.

Separately, the District Population Welfare Office observed World Population Day by organizing an awareness seminar at Bacha Khan Library in Company Bagh, Kohat. The event was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Hamid Khan, officials from the Population Welfare Department and representatives of various government departments.

Addressing the seminar, speakers stressed the importance of population stabilization, maternal and child health, and the efficient management of national resources. They said rapid population growth places increasing pressure on healthcare, education, food security and housing, emphasizing that greater public awareness of responsible family planning is essential for building a healthier, more educated and sustainable society.
