Hyderabad: A welcoming ceremony was organized by the Sindh Language Authority (SLA) in honour of children and teachers in Dr. NA Baloch Hall the other day.

Addressing the ceremony, the chairman of the Sindhi Language Authority, Dr. Sher Mharani, said that “There is no greater relationship than pain and sympathy, but if you feel the pain, loneliness and sorrow, then understand that the lamp is burning inside you. SOS is an institution like a home, where the living brothers, who do not have a good relationship with each other, live as brothers and sisters under one roof. It is because of you that life has changed”.

Dr. Parveen Musa Memon, a famous writer and educator, said that I am a teacher.You may need a simple curriculum, but extracurricular activities will broaden your awareness and knowledge. Come here today, and you will get to learn a lot.

She said that thousands of languages are spoken in the world, but getting a basic education in your own language will make you more mature, so read and write essays in your own language, be it speech contests or essay writing contests, join them, you will serve the language and your personality will also improve.

Dost Muhammad Baloch, Chairman of “SOS Children’s Village” said, “The children living in the village get a unique environment. Our effort is to give the best training to the children and give them a good education, which is their link today.”

Sahil, a student living in SOS Children’s Village, said, “I used to live with my family first. After Aman’s death, my father admitted me here in 2012. It’s been 14 years. I studied here and now I’m studying engineering at Mehran University.

This institution gave me awareness along with life; I am what I am today because of this institution. Sonia, a student of SOS Village, said, “I have never felt oppressed here. There are all kinds of facilities here at home. I wish to become a CSS officer and work hard for them.”

On this occasion, the supervisors of the school, Miss Sheerin and Miss Rosina, also shared their views.

Murree: Dense fog has blanketed the queen of hills, Murree, and its surroundings, severely dropping visibility levels and reducing traffic to a crawl on major arteries.

In response to the prevailing weather conditions, District Police Officer (DPO) Murree, Dr. Muhammad Raza Tanveer, issued a crucial statement regarding the situation and has personally taken to the field to oversee traffic management operations.

DPO Murree emphasized that the thick fog has drastically reduced visibility across key highways, resulting in slow-moving traffic. He stated that despite the inclement weather and challenging conditions, Murree Police and traffic wardens have been placed on high alert. Personnel are actively deployed on the roads to assist stranded citizens and tourists while ensuring the smooth flow of traffic.

Given the current weather advisory, Dr. Muhammad Raza Tanveer has strongly urged both citizens and tourists to completely avoid unnecessary travel. He directed motorists and locals visiting Murree to keep their vehicle speeds to an absolute minimum, utilize fog lights, and strictly adhere to traffic rules and regulations.

Amid the weather emergency, DPO Murree Raza Tanveer Sipra personally visited various highways, inspecting the deployment and directly supervising the implementation of the comprehensive traffic plan on-site to avert any potential gridlock or untoward accidents.

Attock: Police in Jand arrested four alleged gamblers and seized Rs280,000 in cash during a raid on an alleged gambling den at Railway Ground, officials said on Saturday.

According to police, officers on routine patrol acted on information from an informant that several individuals were gambling with playing cards in an open area beneath trees at the Railway Ground. A police team immediately conducted a raid on the site.

Police said the suspects attempted to flee after mixing up the cash allegedly staked on the game, but four men were arrested at the scene. The suspects were identified as Wajid Ali, Muhammad Irfan, Dilawar and Faqeer Yar, all residents of Sargodha who were reportedly staying at a hotel in Jand.

The arrested men were taken into custody, while police seized Rs280,000 allegedly being used for gambling. A case has been registered against the suspects, and further investigation is underway, police said.

Larkana: On the orders of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Qambar-Shahdadkot Hassan Sardar Ahmed Khan Niazi, operations against criminal elements are ongoing. Three wanted accused in a dacoity case have been arrested, weapons and a motorcycle recovered, and a case has been registered against them.

According to police, Sub-Inspector Faheem Hussain Abbasi, In-charge of Police Post Rabi Pul, along with his staff, conducted an operation at the Kachi Pul bypass. They arrested three accused wanted in the PP Rabi Pul case – Abdul Rasool Admani Magsi, Noral Khan Jageerani, and Faheem Admani Magsi – along with a motorcycle. One pistol and bullets, used in the crime, were recovered from the possession of accused Abdul Rasool Magsi, and cases were registered against them. Interrogation of the arrested accused is ongoing.

Rawalpindi: Agriculture Secretary, Punjab Iftikhar Ali Sahoo on Saturday directed the relevant authorities to formulate and submit a comprehensive, viable plan within one month to upgrade and modernize horticulture and off-season vegetable cultivation across District Murree.

He issued these directives during his official visit to Murree, where he was received by Deputy Commissioner Murree Agha Zaheer Abbas Shirazi and senior officials.

During the visit, the secretary received a detailed briefing on the overall performance of the department, ongoing development schemes, farmer welfare initiatives, and the specific challenges posed by regional weather patterns.

The briefing highlighted various measures being taken to promote fruit production, expand modern agricultural technology and implement the provincial government’s farmer-centric policies to increase yields and boost local incomes.

Reviewing the department’s performance, Iftikhar Ali Sahoo maintained that the timely provision of high-quality agricultural services, modern farming techniques, and transparent execution of government schemes must be ensured so that the benefits reach local growers directly.

He observed that Murree’s unique climate possesses immense potential for horticulture, high-quality fruit production, and off-season vegetables, making integrated planning vital to exploit this natural advantage.

The secretary highlighted that the upcoming master plan aims to revive and expand the agricultural infrastructure in Murree, ensuring long-term economic stability for the local farming community.

He reiterated the Punjab government’s commitment to achieving sustainable agricultural growth by utilizing all available resources, promoting farmer-friendly initiatives, and deploying modern technology across the province.

Rawalpindi: Commissioner Rawalpindi Division, Salman Ghani on Saturday chaired a meeting to review the progress of ongoing development and beautification projects across the division, directing all departments to ensure timely completion of schemes without compromising on quality.

The meeting was attended by Additional Commissioner (Coordination) Zenia Humayun, Director Development Syed Nazarat Ali Shah, Chief Executive Officer of the Municipal Corporation Rawalpindi, the Superintending Engineer (Highways), representatives of NESPAK and heads of other relevant departments.

Officials presented a detailed briefing on the implementation status of development schemes in various districts of Rawalpindi Division, highlighting progress, challenges and measures being taken to complete the projects within the stipulated timelines. The meeting also conducted a comprehensive review of the ongoing Commercial Market Beautification Project.

Expressing satisfaction over the pace of work while stressing the need for greater efficiency, Commissioner Salman Ghani directed the departments concerned to complete the Commercial Market Beautification Project within the next 20 days under all circumstances. He instructed that all remaining works be completed within the prescribed timeframe while ensuring the highest standards of quality.

The commissioner ordered the departments to expedite the installation and rehabilitation of fountains, fa§ade improvement of commercial buildings, comprehensive upgradation of the sewerage network, installation of paver (Tuff) tiles and construction of utility ducts. He said these measures would help transform the area into a modern, aesthetically appealing and well-equipped commercial hub for residents and visitors alike.

He also directed that modern public executive washrooms be made operational in the Commercial Market to facilitate shoppers and visitors. The facility will include five washrooms each for men and women. He emphasized that cleanliness, regular maintenance, accessibility for persons with disabilities and a sustainable operational management system must be ensured as essential components of the project.

During the meeting, officials informed the commissioner that the construction and revamping of the Integrated Record Preservation and Public Access Management System at the Divisional Headquarters, Rawalpindi, had also been approved.

Under the project, a modern two-storey building will be constructed, featuring a fully digital, state-of-the-art record management facility designed to ensure the secure, organised and efficient preservation of official records while improving public access to services.

Reiterating the government’s commitment to timely development, Salman Ghani directed all departments to complete every project strictly in accordance with the approved timelines, warning that unnecessary delays would not be tolerated under any circumstances.

“There will be no compromise on the quality, transparency or pace of development works,” he said, adding that public resources must be utilized efficiently and responsibly. He further instructed that any technical or administrative bottlenecks affecting ongoing projects should be referred immediately to the relevant forums for prompt resolution to ensure uninterrupted execution of development schemes and enable the public to benefit from them at the earliest.
