Abbottabad: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tourism Department has launched a province-wide awareness campaign to promote water safety among tourists following recent drowning incidents in Swat, Naran, and other tourist destinations.

As part of the campaign, an awareness drive was conducted at the Harno River in Abbottabad under the supervision of Culture and Tourism Officer Saima Imran. Tourism Police officers and Rescue 1122 personnel participated in the activity, educating visitors about the dangers of flash floods and strong water currents.

During the campaign, Tourism Police and Rescue 1122 officials evacuated children and women who were present in the river and shifted them to safer locations. They also distributed informational material and urged tourists to avoid entering fast-flowing water.

Speaking to the media, Culture and Tourism Officer Saima Imran said the campaign had been launched on the directives of the Advisor to the Chief Minister for Tourism, Malik Adil, Secretary Tourism Saadat Hassan, and the Director General of Tourism, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

She said the initiative aims to prevent tragic incidents like those reported in Swat, Saifullah Lake, Naran, and other tourist destinations by raising awareness among visitors.

She warned that heavy monsoon rains and flooding in rivers and streams have been forecast and advised tourists to stay away from swollen water bodies.

She noted that several fatal incidents have occurred in recent years when visitors ventured into rivers to take photographs, selfies, or record TikTok videos.

Saima Imran also urged tourists to exercise extra caution at locations where Tourism Department officials, Tourism Police, or Rescue 1122 personnel are not deployed.

She emphasized that following safety precautions and avoiding dangerous areas during the monsoon season are essential to protecting human lives.

During the awareness campaign, officials also interacted with tourists at the riverbank, encouraging them to comply with safety instructions and remain away from fast-flowing water.

Kohat: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kohat, Muhammad Nawaz, chaired an important meeting regarding the issue of unannounced and prolonged power outages by WAPDA. The session was attended by DEDIC Chairman and Member Provincial Assembly Daud Afridi, local elders, and relevant WAPDA officials.

During the meeting, participants discussed the hardships faced by citizens due to excessive load-shedding and reviewed various aspects of electricity supply in the district. The DC directed WAPDA authorities to immediately end unnecessary and unannounced power cuts and ensure uninterrupted electricity supply through effective and practical measures.

He emphasized that providing basic facilities to the public is the top priority of the provincial government, and any negligence or delay in this regard would not be tolerated. The DC urged officials to utilize all available resources to improve the power distribution system and address public complaints promptly.

Meanwhile, on the directives of Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Nawaz, Additional Assistant Commissioner (Revenue) conducted inspections at Bannu Road and Neher Bazaar, where four shops run by Afghan nationals were found operating illegally. Upon verification, the individuals were identified as foreign citizens, and legal action was taken under Section 14 of the Foreigners Act. They were handed over to the local police, cases were registered, and the shops were sealed.

The district administration reaffirmed its commitment to uphold the rule of law and ensure implementation of government directives without discrimination, safeguarding public interest across Kohat.

In another development, Additional Assistant Commissioner Gumbat, Syed Mukhtiar Shah, visited RHC Bili Tang and BHU Togh Bala to inspect healthcare facilities. He reviewed the availability of medicines, cleanliness, staff attendance, and overall arrangements. The medical staff were instructed to maintain high standards of hygiene and ensure timely provision of quality healthcare services to patients.

He reiterated that the administration will continue its efforts to improve public service delivery and maintain transparency and accountability in all departments.

Rawalpindi: On the directions of City Police Officer (CPO) Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Malik Tariq Mehboob held an open court (Khuli Katchery) at Chontra Police Station to address public grievances.

According to police spokesperson, the proceeding was attended by the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Saddar, Station House Officer (SHO) Chontra, and investigation officers.

A large number of local residents participated and presented their complaints and concerns.

During the open court, SSP Operations Malik Tariq Mehboob listened to the citizens’ problems and issued on-the-spot directions to the relevant officers for their prompt resolution.

Speaking on the occasion, the SSP Operations said that providing the best possible services to the public would be ensured at all costs.

He added that the police are taking all necessary measures to protect the lives and property of citizens and to ensure the timely provision of justice.

Faisalabad: The police have intensified enforcement of the Tenancy Act and arrested more than 600 violators by registering 565 cases under the Tenant Registration Act during the current year 2026.

Police spokesman Tariq Jatt said that the campaign was being carried out on the directives of City Police Officer (CPO) Tanveer Hussain, who ordered strict implementation of tenancy laws across the district.

He said that more than 600 suspects had been arrested during the ongoing year for violating provisions of the Tenancy Act while the police also registered 565 criminal cases against those found flouting the Tenant Registration Act.

He said that strict legal action was being taken against both property owners and tenants who failed to complete mandatory tenant registration.

Registration in the Police Tenant Registration System was a legal obligation for landlords as well as tenants and no leniency would be shown to those violating the law, he added.

Meanwhile, CPO Tanveer Hussain said that Tenant Registration System had emerged as an effective tool in identifying and apprehending proclaimed offenders and other criminal elements, besides helping police maintain an updated record of residents for effective crime prevention and investigation.

He said that registration of all rental properties in police records had been made mandatory to curb the activities of criminals and anti-social elements.

He directed all Station House Officers (SHOs) to ensure comprehensive registration of tenants within their respective jurisdictions without exception.

The CPO also urged property owners to complete the registration of their tenants without delay through the Police App’s “Tenant Registration” facility. Strict action would continue against those found violating the law in order to maintain peace and strengthen public security across the district, he added.
