Nowshera feroze: A man died after reportedly suffering a medical emergency during the pursuit of suspected robbers near Kandiaro area, the police said on Tuesday.

The incident began when armed men allegedly robbed a local resident. The villagers then chased the suspects, who abandoned their motorcycle and fled the scene on foot, they added.

During the pursuit, amid panic and the sound of gunfire, a bystander identified as Mumtaz Siyal reportedly became unwell and died.

The police said the exact cause of death would be determined through legal procedures.

The police arrived at the scene, transferred the body to a nearby hospital for necessary formalities and took the abandoned motorcycle into custody as part of the investigation.

The police said investigations were under way from multiple angles and efforts were continuing to trace and arrest the fleeing suspects.

Rawalpindi: Chief Organizer, Pakistan Ex-Servicemen Society (PESS), Aziz Ahmed Awan on Tuesday said that the decisions taken during recently held Corps Commanders’ Conference (CCC) were fully aligned with the requirement of national security, defense of the homeland, and national stability.

In a statement issued here, he declared that the PESS fully supports these strategic decisions and would continue to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the armed forces in every testing time to ensure national defense, peace, and stability.

Aziz Ahmed Awan highlighted that the entire nation held the leadership and services of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir in the highest esteem, praising the professional capabilities of the Pakistan Armed Forces in safeguarding the country’s security and sovereignty.

Paying rich tribute to the martyrs and veterans, the PESS Chief Organizer emphasized that the martyrs were the nation’s most precious asset whose eternal sacrifices had kept Pakistan secure, strong, and dignified. He added that the nation would never forget its heroes, whose sacrifices would remain a guiding light for future generations.

Faisalabad: The police have busted a fake customs officers’ gang and arrested its four active members on charge of robbing people and depriving them of valuables at gunpoint.

Police spokesman said that the accused Hammad, Ali, Muhammad Bin Ismail and Muzammal Hussain used to impersonate customs officers and trap people by presenting themselves as government officials.

After gaining the victims’ confidence, they allegedly threatened them with weapons and robbed them of cash and other valuable belongings.

Receiving complaint, Station House Officer (SHO) Sadar Jaranwala police station Ijaz Ahmad conducted a successful raid and arrested four members of the fraud gang.

The accused were locked behind bars while further investigation was under progress, he added.

Rawalpindi: Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) and the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote climate-smart agriculture, strengthen the peanut value chain and improve rural livelihoods.

The signing ceremony was held at the university, where Chairman Prime Minister’s Youth Programme (PMYP) Rana Mashood Ahmad Khan was the chief guest, and Chief Executive Officer of PPAF Nadir Gul Barech attended as the guest of honor, said a press release issued by the university.

Addressing the ceremony, Rana Mashood Ahmad Khan said that the government was establishing Digital Youth Hubs across the country to provide modern training and enhance entrepreneurship. Highlighting his recent visit to China, he announced that strategic initiatives for agricultural development and technology transfer between leading Chinese agricultural universities and PMAS-AAUR would be launched soon.

The Chairman also paid tribute to Pakistan’s Armed Forces, stating that under the leadership of Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Pakistan’s global image has strengthened, leading to increased foreign investment and socio-economic opportunities.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) PPAF, Nadir Gul Barech, explained that the collaboration would be implemented under the “Climate-Resilient Peanut Value Chain Development for Rural Enterprise and Economic Graduation Project.” The initiative was aimed to improve peanut production systems, enhance value addition, expand digital advisory services, and improve market access for farmers through an integrated research-to-market model.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman expressed gratitude to the PMYP and PPAF, highlighting that arid university possesses state-of-the-art laboratories and advanced research facilities capable of delivering innovative solutions to benefit farming communities and ensure national food security.

Rawalpindi: A local court on Tuesday sentenced a narcotics smuggler to nine years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs 80,000.

According to a Rawalpindi police spokesperson, the convict, Ayaz, was arrested by Naseerabad police in April after authorities recovered 1.480 kilograms of hashish from his possession.

The court awarded the sentence after evaluating the evidence and witnesses presented by the prosecution team.

Peshawar: The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has modified an Auction Committees for condemned and surplus vehicles belonging to government departments, attached departments, autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, closed projects, government-controlled boards, corporations, and other public sector organizations.

According to a notification issued by the Administration Department (Transport Section), the committees have been constituted at the Provincial Headquarters, Divisional Headquarters, and District Headquarters to ensure a transparent, efficient, and well-publicized auction process.

At the Provincial Headquarters level, the committee will be chaired by the Minister for Law, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while the Secretary Administration Department, Additional Secretary (Administration) Finance Department, Director General Excise and Taxation, Deputy Secretary (Administration), DIG Telecommunication Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will serve as members. The Section Officer (Transport), Administration Department, will perform the duties of Member-cum-Secretary.

Separate Sub-Committees have also been constituted at the Divisional and District levels. These committees will be headed by a Cabinet Member or MPA nominated by the Chairman of the Auction Committee/ Minister for Law.

The concerned Divisional Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, representative of the Administration Department, Secretary RTA, Excise and Taxation Officer (ETO), and Assistant Commissioner (in Divisional) /Additional Deputy Commissioner General (in District) will serve as members, with the designated officer acting as Member-cum-Secretary.

The notification mandates the committees to conduct open, transparent, and widely publicized auctions of surplus and condemned government vehicles.

The auctions will be held strictly on an “as-is” and “where-is” basis, ensuring compliance with all applicable rules, policies, and government instructions. The committees have also been authorized to co-opt any other government official for technical assistance whenever required and to issue detailed operational procedures for the smooth conduct of the auction process.
