Abbottabad: The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) has advised commuters and tourists to avoid unnecessary travel after the Pakistan Meteorological Department forecast heavy rainfall and strong winds across most parts of the country, including the Hazara region, on July 7 and 8.

The advisory comes a day after torrential rains lashed various parts of Hazara, disrupting traffic on the GT Road and motorway due to flooding, reduced visibility, and other weather-related hazards.

According to the Motorway Police spokesperson, motorists should exercise extreme caution while travelling as heavy rainfall may make national highways and motorways slippery and significantly reduce visibility.

The spokesperson urged drivers to reduce speed, maintain a safe distance from other vehicles and keep headlights switched on while driving in the rain.

Travellers heading towards northern and mountainous areas have also been warned of the risk of landslides and falling rocks. The Motorway Police advised the public to avoid unnecessary travel to such areas and to check the latest weather and road conditions before starting their journey.

The spokesperson further warned that seasonal streams and nullahs may experience flash flooding and urged motorists and tourists not to attempt crossing floodwaters under any circumstances.

Drivers were also reminded to refrain from using mobile phones while driving and to remain fully attentive to the road.

The Motorway Police advised road users to obtain updated information on motorway and highway conditions before departure. Travellers requiring assistance or traffic updates can contact the Motorway Police Helpline at 130 or follow the official NHMP social media handle @NHMPofficial for the latest information.

Astore: Newly elected Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, Amjad Hussain Advocate, held farewell meeting with Caretaker Chief Minister Justice (R) Yar Muhammad at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Gilgit.

The meeting focused on the overall administrative situation in the province, government affairs, ongoing development projects, and matters related to the orderly and peaceful transfer of power.

During the meeting, both leaders agreed that public interest would remain the foremost priority. They emphasized ensuring the continuity of development projects, promoting effective governance, strengthening a transparent administrative system, and improving the delivery of public services through coordinated efforts.

Minister for Forests Hafiz Sharafatuddin was also present on the occasion. The participants reaffirmed their commitment to taking all possible measures for the development of Gilgit-Baltistan, the welfare of its people, and the strengthening of public institutions to ensure that the province’s progress continues uninterrupted.

The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere, during which the caretaker government conveyed its best wishes to the newly elected government.

The participants described the constitutional, democratic, and peaceful transfer of power as a reflection of strong democratic traditions and expressed hope that the new government would take effective steps to fulfill the expectations of the people

Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is set to launch a major operation against illegal Afghan immigrants across the province from July 10, with authorities completing all necessary preparations.

The repatriation process of undocumented foreign nationals is also continuing.

According to official sources on Tuesday, more than 14,000 Afghan families returned to Afghanistan between July 1 and July 6. During the same period, several houses, shops and business premises in different parts of Peshawar were vacated.

Authorities said the crackdown will begin in various parts of Peshawar and the cantonment area, targeting undocumented immigrants and businesses operating in violation of the law.

The planned operation is expected to cover key commercial areas, including Namak Mandi, Qissa Khwani Bazaar, Food and Flour Market, Ashraf Road, Khyber Bazaar, University Road, Fruit and Vegetable Market and other major trading centers in the city.

The operation will be carried out jointly by the police and law enforcement agencies. Officials have reportedly completed the identification of undocumented Afghan traders and other individuals engaged in illegal business activities, paving the way for legal action during the crackdown.

Authorities maintained that the operation is aimed only at individuals residing illegally in the country and those violating the law, adding that the government’s repatriation policy will continue alongside the enforcement campaign.

Hyderabad: Deputy Commissioner Jamshoro Ghazanfar Ali Qadri inaugurated a week-long blood donation camp at the Deputy Commissioner Office, Jamshoro to help overcome the acute shortage of blood at the Regional Blood Center (RBC).

Talking to the media after inaugurating the camp, the Deputy Commissioner described blood donation as a noble humanitarian act and the “Zakat of the body.”

He said that a single bag of donated blood could save the life of a patient in need, an accident victim, or a child suffering from thalassemia.

He said officers, staff of the district administration and volunteers from different walks of life, would actively participate in the week-long campaign to help replenish blood stocks at the Regional Blood Center.

Expressing confidence in the people of Jamshoro, he said the district’s residents would once again demonstrate their spirit of humanitarian service by donating blood in large numbers. Their participation, he added, would enable the Regional Blood Center to achieve its target and ensure the timely availability of blood for patients in need.

On the occasion, Assistant Commissioner Kotri Ayaz Hussain, district officials and other participants also donated blood to support the campaign.

Regional Blood Center representative Shahzad Ahmed thanked the Deputy Commissioner for taking a personal interest in organizing the camp and for promoting the culture of voluntary blood donation. He said the campaign would significantly improve the availability of blood for underprivileged patients, particularly those suffering from thalassemia and other serious diseases.

Muzaffargarh: A body of a shepherd was recovered from the River Sindh after a six-day search operation here on Tuesday.

Rescue 1122 said that the deceased, identified as Mukhtar Hussain(55) had crossed the river to graze his cattle but did not return.

Upon getting information,Rescue-1122 launched search operation and the body was recovered.

near Dhor Wali Pul, located around 44 kilometers from Mouza Nuri Wala.

After completion of medico-legal formalities, the body was handed over to the family.

Larkana: Jacobabad Police, with the assistance of a Federal Civil Sensitive Agency, have arrested an international and inter-provincial smuggler allegedly involved in the smuggling and theft of valuable antiquities. Illegal weapons and other significant evidence were recovered from the possession of the accused here on Tuesday.

Acting on a confidential tip-off from the Federal Civil Sensitive Agency, Jacobabad Police conducted a successful operation and arrested inter-provincial smuggler Syed Lal Shah, a resident of Jhal Magsi District, Balochistan, from Mamlank Road. During the operation, illegal weapons and important evidentiary material crucial for the investigation were recovered from the accused’s possession.

During the initial investigation, the accused allegedly revealed that he was associated with a network that scouts valuable antiquities at various historical sites across Pakistan to steal and smuggle them. Recently, he surveyed the valuable antiquities placed on display at Mohenjo-daro and planned a heist with his accomplices. For this purpose, local individuals were allegedly involved to steal the valuable antiquities and smuggle them abroad via Balochistan.

According to preliminary information, the accused is allegedly associated with an organized international smuggling network actively involved in smuggling valuable antiquities and rare historical artifacts from various regions of Pakistan. Based on the recovered evidence and the ongoing investigation, operations against the accused’s other accomplices, facilitators, and the smuggling network have been accelerated.
