Faisalabad: A man was killed while four others were injured in a road accident in the suburb of tehsil Tandlianwala on Tuesday.

According to Rescue-1122, a collision between a bus, rickshaw and a motorcycle occurred near Rehmey Shah on Sahiwal road. As a result,65-year-old Shakeel suffered serious injuries and died on spot while four people including Liaqat Ali (45), Kashif (30), Umar (12) and Adeel (13) suffered injuries.

Rescue team shifted the victims to THQ hospital.

Police concerned launched investigation.

Hyderabad: Acting President of the Hyderabad Chamber of Small Traders and Small Industry (HCSTSI), Ahmed Idrees Chohan, has expressed serious concern over the prolonged and unannounced electricity outages in Hyderabad.

He stated that HESCO issues schedules indicating planned power shutdowns of five hours in various areas, however, in practice Hyderabad remained plunged into darkness for seven, eight, or even more hours in some locations.

This significant discrepancy between the announced schedule and the actual duration of power outages should be revisited.

He further stated that the Hyderabad Chamber has formally written to the Chief Executive Officer of HESCO, urging the authority to take immediate concerted measures to address this serious issue.

Chohan said that traders, industrialists, shopkeepers, students, and the general public organize their business, educational, and household activities according to the shutdown schedules announced by HESCO, However, electricity remained unavailable for several additional hours without prior notice, business operations were severely hampered resulting in financial losses and unnecessary inconvenience.

He added that, in its letter, the Chamber has demanded that HESCO announce only the actual duration of planned shutdowns, promptly inform the public in case of any extension beyond the scheduled time, and investigate the reasons behind the recurring discrepancy between the announced and actual outage durations to prevent consumers from facing such difficulties in the future.

Chohan expressed hope that the Chief Executive Officer of HESCO would personally take notice of this matter of public significance and ensure immediate corrective action.

He also welcomed HESCO’s initiative to exempt 68 feeders in Hyderabad from load shedding, stating that while the utility’s efforts to improve electricity supply are commendable, it is equally important to ensure accuracy, transparency, and accountability in the issuance of shutdown schedules.

This would help restore public confidence and protect the business community from unnecessary hardships.

Peshawar: At least 10 people, including women were injured after a speeding passenger van overturned near Maran Dho on Srikot Road in Haripur district on Tuesday.

According to police, the van was travelling from Srikot to Gadwalian when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn.

Rescue teams responded promptly to the scene and shifted all the injured passengers to a nearby hospital.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.

Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly and EduTourism for Unity on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate in areas of parliamentary capacity building, leadership development and start initiatives aligned with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The MoU was signed by secretary KP assembly, Waqar Shah and Muhammad Danyal Akram, Overseas Executive Director Edu Tourism in a ceremony that was attended by Speaker KP assembly, Babar Salim Swat and members provincial assembly.

Addressing the ceremony, KP Speaker said that strengthening the professional capacity of elected representatives and the Assembly Secretariat staff is fundamental to building a strong, effective and modern parliamentary institution.

He added that collaboration with international organizations, leadership development programs and structured study tours would provide assembly members and parliamentary staff with valuable exposure to global practices thereby enhancing legislation, public representation and institutional performance.

The agreement further provides that all activities, nominations and programs undertaken under the MoU shall be subject to the approval and oversight of the KP Assembly Secretariat ensuring transparency, institutional accountability confidentiality and effective coordination between the two parties.

Faisalabad: The district police observed the death anniversary of martyr ASI Muhammad Nawaz on Tuesday, paid rich tribute to his sacrifice.

A smart contingent of Nishatabad police station presented a salute to the martyred, laid a wreath on the grave and offered Fateha.

A police spokesperson said that ASI Muhammad Nawaz was martyred in a bomb blast in Rawalpindi some 18 years back while performing duty.

In a statement, CPO Tanveer Hussain while paying tribute said that the martyred policemen were the nation’s valuable asset and our pride.

Their sacrifices can never be forgotten, he said, adding that it was our responsibility to take care of the families and children of the martyrs.

Faisalabad: University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof. Dr. Zulfiqar Ali has called upon PhD scholars to focus on innovation, tangible research outcomes, and securing research funding as these are imperative to address agricultural and socioeconomic challenges of the country.

He was addressing an interactive session with PhD scholars organized by the Directorate of Graduate Studies at New Senate Hall on Tuesday. Director Graduate Studies Dr Khalid Bashir presented the agenda of the meeting.

Prof. Dr. Zulfiqar Ali urged them to go beyond academic publications and translate into practical solutions for farmers, industries, and policymakers.

He said that innovation-driven and problem-oriented research is essential for ensuring food security, climate resilience, sustainable agriculture, and economic development.

The UAF Vice Chancellor stressed that researchers should actively compete for funded research projects. He said that attracting research grants enable scholars to undertake cutting-edge research with global relevance.

He encouraged PhD scholars to collaborate with industry, research organizations, and international universities to maximize the impact of their work.

Sharing the university’s future vision, Prof. Dr. Zulfiqar Ali said that UAF is mapping out a new Studentship Program for talented postgraduate students that will help them generate income. He urged the scholars to uphold highest standards of research ethics, originality, and academic integrity while developing innovative ideas that contribute to national progress.

He assured the participants that the university administration would continue providing an enabling environment, modern research facilities, and mentorship to help scholars excel in their academic and professional careers.

Director Graduate Studies Dr. Khalid Bashir said that they are taking all possible steps for quality student research mechanisms that will pave a way towards bright future.
