Peshawar: The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has approved a series of flood protection and water conservation projects worth billions of rupees for Karak district after sustained lobbying by the former provincial minister and MPA Muhammad Sajjad Barakwal.

According to the official sources on Sunday, the projects include flood protection walls, embankments, check dams, causeways and small storage reservoirs across flood-prone localities, including Lawaghar Algada, Mashi Khel, Kashu Ghara, Mohbati Khelay, Zamari Gardang, Kas Banda, Lindiki Koroona, Paloski Banda, Lundi Wagi, Kunda Siraj Khel, Takrawan, Surti Khelay, Chokara Dawala, Wanki Kal Tangi, Darki Banda and Deli Banda.

The schemes are intended to reduce the impact of seasonal and flash floods by protecting farmland, residential areas, roads, bridges and other public infrastructure. The projects are also expected to improve water storage, support irrigation, replenish groundwater, reduce soil erosion and strengthen the district’s resilience to climate-related risks.

Barakwal said the approvals reflected years of continuous engagement with the relevant authorities and described the projects as an important step toward protecting vulnerable communities and supporting sustainable development in Karak.

He called for the timely and transparent execution of the schemes to ensure residents receive the intended benefits without delay.

Community elders and local representatives welcomed the approvals, saying the projects would significantly reduce flood-related losses, improve agricultural productivity, strengthen transport infrastructure and contribute to the district’s long-term economic development.

Faisalabad: Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations),Imran Ahmed Malik on Sunday held an open court (Khuli Katchery) at his office and listened to citizens’ grievances firsthand.

He directed the relevant police officers to ensure disposal of complaints within the prescribed time-frame to provide prompt,transparent and effective justice.

A large number of citizens attended the open court and presented their complaints and policing-related issues directly before the SSP Operations.

After hearing each complaint individually,SSP Imran Malik issued instructions to the police officers to examine the cases on merit and resolve them within the stipulated period. All complaints should be addressed fairly,transparently and without unnecessary delay,he added.

Speaking on the occasion,SSP Operations said that providing prompt, transparent and effective justice is the foremost priority of Faisalabad Police.

He said that purpose of holding regular open courts was to ensure direct public access to senior police officers,facilitate timely redressal of grievances and strengthen public confidence in the policing system.

He said that injustice to any citizen would not be tolerated under any circumstances.

All officers had been directed to deal with public complaints strictly in accordance with the law and departmental procedures,he added.

He further said that Faisalabad Police was continuing to take every possible measure to improve public service delivery, resolve citizens’ issues efficiently and promote a people-friendly policing culture through accountability, accessibility and effective complaint management.

Nawabshah: Abid Lashari, Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, President of the National Disability and Development Forum (NDF) Pakistan, formally handed over the sale letters (registration documents) of donated tri-motor bikes to Mr Najaf Ali Awan, Mr Jumo Khan Jamali, Mr Shabir Brohi, Mr Parvez Ali Laghari, Mr Ali Raza Abro, Mr Javed Ali Soomro, Mr Ali Hassan Khoso, Mr Zain ul Abdin Ansari and Mr Mithal Ali to facilitate the official registration of their assistive mobility vehicles.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Abid Lashari said that access to mobility is a fundamental right and a key element of empowering persons with disabilities. He emphasized that tri-motor bikes enable beneficiaries to travel independently, access education, employment, healthcare, and participate actively in social and community life with dignity.

He further stated that completing the legal registration process ensures that beneficiaries can safely and lawfully use their tri-motor bikes, promoting long-term independence and inclusion.

Mr Abid Lashari expressed his sincere gratitude to the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPD), Government of Sindh, for its continued support in providing assistive devices and promoting disability inclusion across the province.

He reaffirmed NDF Pakistan’s commitment to working with government departments, development partners, and the private sector to expand access to assistive devices and rehabilitation services, ensuring that more persons with disabilities can live independent, productive, and dignified lives.

Faisalabad: Police have arrested 3,780 proclaimed offenders during a large-scale crackdown launched across the district during the current year,officials said on Sunday.

According to a police spokesman,the operation was conducted through intelligence-based policing, coordinated field actions and the use of modern surveillance technology, aimed at strengthening efforts to curb serious crime.

He said the arrested offenders included 1,436 Category-A proclaimed offenders involved in heinous offenses and 2,344 Category-B offenders wanted in various other cases.

Police also arrested 130 proclaimed offenders wanted in murder cases and 163 suspects involved in attempted murder cases,the spokesman added.

He further said 1,290 proclaimed offenders wanted in robbery and dacoity cases were also apprehended during the crackdown.

The spokesman said police teams traced hideouts of fugitives using human intelligence, CCTV surveillance and technical resources, enabling the arrest of individuals evading arrest for long periods.

He added that the crackdown against proclaimed offenders and organized criminal elements would continue with renewed vigor to maintain law and order, improve public safety and strengthen public confidence in the criminal justice system.

Chiniot: Police in Chiniot have arrested two proclaimed offenders as part of an ongoing district-wide campaign targeting wanted criminals, launched on the directives of Regional Police Officer Faisalabad Sohail Akhtar Sukhera.

According to police, Rescue Falcon In-charge Sub-Inspector Mohsin Hassan on Sunday led the operation, which resulted in the arrest of the two suspects wanted in separate criminal cases. The arrests were made with the help of intelligence gathered through human sources and modern technology, while further investigations are underway.

District Police Officer Dr. Naveed Atif said the campaign against criminal elements was being pursued vigorously to improve public safety and ensure that proclaimed offenders are brought to justice.

He said special police teams had been constituted to track down wanted suspects and that all available resources would be utilised to ensure the arrest of proclaimed offenders across the district.

Faisalabad: Factory Area police have claimed to have busted a vehicle lifter gang by arresting two of its members and recovering stolen motorcycles and a rickshaw,officials said on Sunday.

According to a police spokesperson,Station House Officer (SHO) Factory Area,Muhammad Riaz conducted an intelligence-based operation and arrested two suspects identified as Ahmad and Munawar Hussain.

Police said three stolen motorcycles and a rickshaw were recovered from the possession of the arrested suspects.

During initial interrogation,the accused allegedly confessed to their involvement in four motorcycle theft cases,the spokesperson added.

Further investigation was underway.
