Sargodha: Police recovered an infant four days after his alleged abduction and arrested four suspects,including three women, during a raid in Islamabad,a police spokesperson said on Saturday.

According to police,the child,Haris(8 months), was allegedly kidnapped from Abbas Colony in the Bhagtanwala area on July 1,2026(Wednesday).

Following the incident,District Police Officer (DPO),Muhammad Sohaib Ashraf constituted a special investigation team to ensure the child’s safe recovery.

According to the spokesperson,the investigators analyzed footage from 436 CCTV cameras and used modern surveillance techniques to trace the suspects,who had allegedly switched multiple vehicles and turned off their mobile phones to evade arrest.

After a three-day search operation, police raided 59 hotels and guest houses in Rawalpindi and Islamabad before tracing the suspects to Prince Hotel in Faizabad,where they were arrested and the infant was recovered safely.

Police said the suspects told investigators during initial interrogation that they had abducted the child after the death of their own infant and had developed an attachment to Haris.

The infant was later reunited with his family.

Police said further legal proceedings against the arrested suspects were underway.

Faisalabad: The Punjab Highway Patrolling (PHP) Police have registered 483 criminal cases and arrested 506 accused including 22 proclaimed offenders and court absconders from Faisalabad region during June 2026.

A PHP spokesman said here on Saturday that the patrolling teams with the help of e-Police App arrested 19 proclaimed offenders and three court absconders wanted in various cases and shifted them to police custody for further legal proceedings.

He said that the police registered 483 cases under different provisions of law during June and arrested 484 suspects. During operations, the police teams recovered one pistol, one repeater gun and ammunition from the possession of the accused, he added.

He said that eight cases were registered under narcotics laws, leading to the recovery of 130 liters of liquor during targeted operations against drug-related offences.

The patrolling police also took 3,393 suspicious and unverified motorcycles into custody during checking on highways for verification and legal action during this period, he added.

Highlighting emergency response services, he said that the force promptly responded to 21 road accidents, providing assistance to 40 affected persons while six injured victims were administered first aid immediately on the spot before further medical arrangements were made.

The patrolling police extended assistance to 2,169 motorists and other road users stranded on highways due to various difficulties, ensuring safe and timely relief, he added.

He said that the PHP police also demonstrated public service and reunited a missing child with his family during last month.

The patrolling teams also removed 107 temporary and permanent encroachments from roadsides to improve traffic flow and ensure safe travelling conditions on highways across the region, he added.

Sialkot: The Department of Zoology at Government College Women University Sialkot (GCWUS) organized a seminar on the use of medicinal plants for the treatment of coccidiosis in pigeons, a university statement said on Saturday.

Held in collaboration with the Office of Research,Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC),the seminar was conducted under the IRG-ORIC 2026-funded research project titled “In vivo Evaluation of Moringa oleifera and Azadirachta indica Against Coccidiosis and its Histopathological Effects in Pigeons”.

Principal Investigator,Dr.Asma Waheed Qureshi delivered the seminar,highlighting the histopathological effects of coccidiosis in pigeons and discussing the therapeutic potential of Moringa oleifera and Azadirachta indica in controlling the parasitic disease.

Faculty members and students attended the event, which provided a platform for discussing eco-friendly approaches to the prevention and treatment of parasitic infections in birds,particularly in the veterinary and poultry sectors.

The organizers acknowledged the financial support provided by ORIC,GCWUS for the research project.

Astore: Director General of the Gilgit-Baltistan Disaster Management Authority (GBDMA) conducted a detailed visit to Pershing Valley to assess potential flood risks caused by glacier melting.

The Deputy Commissioner Astore and the Assistant Director of the District Disaster Management Authority accompanied him during the visit.

During the inspection, the Director General closely examined vulnerable and high-risk locations along both banks of the Pershing stream. He directed the concerned technical staff to ensure immediate protective measures, including the deployment of heavy machinery, construction of temporary embankments using sandbags, and installation of gabion walls to minimize the risk of flooding.

He also instructed the Deputy Commissioner Astore to ensure that the Communication and Works (C and W) Department prepares a comprehensive proposal under the upcoming Annual Development Programme (ADP) for the construction of permanent concrete protection walls to provide sustainable rehabilitation and long-term protection to the affected area.

Later, a meeting of the Community-Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM) Committee was held in Ramkha to strengthen coordination between the local community and emergency response agencies. The participants discussed preparedness for possible emergencies, timely dissemination of information, and enhanced coordination for an effective disaster response.

Gujrat: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) imposed fines amounting Rs.54,000 on five food outlets and issued improvement notices to 18 others during a district-wide food safety drive,officials said on Saturday.

The inspections were carried out on the directives of Deputy Director PFA Sadia Rafat.

During the campaign,PFA teams inspected 43 food businesses across the district to ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene standards.

According to the authority,11 kilograms of expired sweets and other prohibited food items were confiscated and discarded during the operation.A food sample was also collected for laboratory testing.

The PFA said inspections would continue across the district to ensure the availability of safe and hygienic food for consumers and to enforce food safety regulations.

Rawalpindi: Professor Dr Iqbal Mahmood on Saturday officially assumed charge as the Chairman of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Rawalpindi, pledging to uphold merit, transparency, and modern reforms in the examination system.

Upon his arrival at the board office, the newly appointed chairman was welcomed by Board Secretary Professor Amjad Iqbal, Controller of Examinations Tanveer Asghar Awan and representatives of academic and staff welfare associations.

Chairing an introductory meeting with board officials, Dr Mahmood was briefed on the administrative operations, ongoing initiatives, and structural workflow of various departments.

Addressing the officials, Dr Mahmood stated that he considers his appointment a national trust and vowed to transform BISE Rawalpindi into a highly efficient, transparent, and student-friendly institution to strengthen public trust in the examination system.

He emphasized that in line with the Punjab Government’s educational policies, the board will prioritize merit, good governance, the timely conduct of examinations, and the implementation of modern digital reforms to facilitate students and parents efficiently.

The chairman urged the board’s officers and staff to work cohesively with integrity and discipline to position BISE Rawalpindi among the premier educational boards in the country.
