ANF seizes over 193 kg of drugs, arrests 12 suspects in nationwide operations


Rawalpindi: The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) conducted 10 operations across the country and arrested 12 suspects, seizing 193. 57 kilograms(kgs) of narcotics worth more than Rs 30. 5 million, an ANF spokesman said on Monday.



During operations near educational institutions, ANF recovered 24 kg of hashish from a suspect near a university on GT Road, Rawalpindi, and seized 23. 3 kg of hashish from a motorcyclist near a school on Peshawar Road, Rawalpindi.



The spokesman said the arrested suspects confessed to supplying drugs to students of educational institutions.



In international interdiction operations, ANF recovered 58. 5 kg of methamphetamine (ice) concealed inside LED lights from a parcel destined for Saudi Arabia at a courier office in Rawalpindi.



At Quetta International Airport, officials recovered 3. 47 kg of Xanax tablets concealed in bags of halwa and nimko from the luggage of a passenger travelling to Riyadh.



At the cargo shed of Lahore International Airport, ANF seized 3 kg of heroin concealed inside cartons of gloves from a parcel destined for the United Kingdom.



In inter-provincial operations, ANF recovered 43. 2 kg of hashish from a vehicle near Sangjani Toll Plaza and arrested three suspects.



In another operation near Islamabad Toll Plaza, officials seized 28. 8 kg of hashish from two vehicles and apprehended two suspects.



Near Sher Shah Toll Plaza in Multan, ANF recovered 24 kg of hashish from a vehicle and arrested two suspects.



In domestic operations, ANF recovered 9. 6 kg of hashish from the possession of two suspects near a hotel on the National Highway in Hyderabad.



In a separate operation at a cargo office in Shumali Market, Peshawar, officials recovered 500 grams of methamphetamine ice concealed inside an electric stove from a parcel.



Cases have been registered against the arrested suspects under the Control of Narcotic Substances Act, 1997, and further investigations are underway.
