Rawalpindi: Authorities on Saturday directed the immediate appointment of dedicated fire wardens and emergency crew across all public sector hospitals in Rawalpindi Division to enforce round-the-clock operational readiness and ensure uninterrupted water supply for firefighting infrastructure.
Chairing a regional health and safety review meeting convened under directives from CM Punjab, Commissioner Rawalpindi Salman Ghani instructed health officials and deputy commissioners across Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Murree, Attock and Chakwal to execute comprehensive building audits and electrical inspections. The Commissioner emphasized that mere installation of safety equipment remains insufficient, ordering 100 percent functionality of fire extinguishers, continuous pressure monitoring and regular maintenance schedules.
He directed hospital administrators to integrate all fire hydrants directly with underground water storage, tube wells and dedicated reservoirs to ensure constant water pressure during emergencies.
During the meeting, district administrative heads presented progress reports detailing regional compliance parameters. In Rawalpindi hospitals, 21 out of 49 required fire hydrants have been made operational, with remaining installations being expedited.
Attock health officials reported a 98 percent operational readiness rate for fire extinguishers with mandatory safety drills for medical staff.
Chakwal and Jhelum districts completed comprehensive structural and electrical audits while implementing 24/7 emergency response rosters, while Tehsil Headquarter Hospital Murree finalized staff mock exercises following new hydrant installations.
The commissioner reiterated that administrative accountability, defined operational rosters and rapid response protocols must be maintained across all public healthcare institutions throughout the division.
