Karachi: The City administration has initiated the beautification in cooperation with the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Town Municipal Administration (TMAs), in Red Zone and Shahrah-e-Faisal.
This was decided in a meeting chaired by Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi at his office on Wednesday, said a spokesperson.
The relevant Assistant Commissioners, Municipal Commissioners of the Town Municipal Administrations, officials of the concerned departments and other officers gave briefings.
The Deputy Commissioners, the Managing Director of the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board, the Municipal Commissioner of the KMC, and the relevant Assistant Commissioners and Municipal Commissioners attended the meeting.
They agreed that beautification work would include improvement of cleanliness and landscaping, carry out renovation, and removal of roadside encroachments.
The teams comprising assistant commissioners Iqra Jannat and Rabia Syed Karachi who were assigned to carry out the survey of the existing conditions along the Shahrah-e-Faisal (both sides) to identify the improvements required for cleanliness, beautification and repairing of footpaths, roads and service roads.
In total, 250 locations have been identified for the improvement of footpaths and roads /service roads during the surveys undertaken by both assissant commissioners.
It was decided that improvement work along Shahrah-e-Faisal would be carried out under the supervision of two officers. Assistant Commissioner Headquarters Iqra Jannat will supervise beautification and improvement work from FTC to Karsaz, while Assistant Commissioner North Nazimabad Rabia Syed will supervise improvement and renovation work from Karsaz to the Airport.
It was also decided to set up WhatsApp groups separately comprising the relevant officers, including KMC Municipal Commissioner Abrar Jaffer, Assistant Commissioner Headquarters Iqra Jannat, Assistant Commissioner Rabia Syed, Assistant Commissioners of the relevant sub-divisions, Town Municipal Commissioners, and the Additional Deputy Commissioners of the concerned districts.
The meeting identified the need to remove garbage, cover open manholes, repair damaged footpaths and roads, remove roadside encroachments, and clean and repaint the fa§ade areas of various buildings along Shahrah-e-Faisal. Assistant Commissioner Headquarters Iqra Jannat, while giving a detailed briefing with the help of photographs, identified more than 100 works required for beautification and improvement from FTC to Karsaz.
Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner North Nazimabad Rabia Syed identified more than 150 works required along Shahrah-e-Faisal from Karsaz to the Airport.
It was decided that all possible improvement works, including beautification, renovation and removal of roadside encroachments, would be completed within one week.
Subsequently, a meeting chaired by the Commissioner will review the progress of the improvement works, and further planning will be undertaken to make Shahrah-e-Faisal cleaner, better and more attractive.
Meanwhile, at a meeting chaired by the Commissioner Karachi to review measures for the beautification and renovation of the Red Zone, Assistant Commissioner Civil Lines Ahmed Murtaza said that beautification work would be carried out on three model roads in Civil Lines including a road from Boat Basin to Bilawal Chowrangi, from Dua Chowrangi to Dolmen Chowrangi, and from Shaan Circle to Boat Basin.
Work has already begun on the Boat Basin to Bilawal Chowrangi road (Khayaban-e-Saadi), and the project will be completed with the cooperation of the KMC. Improvement of the footpaths on both sides of Shaan Circle has also been planned.
The median belt has already been cleaned, and tree plantation will also be undertaken there, for which necessary arrangements will be made.
Cleaning work has also been completed at the Promenade, Dua Chowrangi Beach, and Beach Luxury Beach Park. However, measures are currently being taken to improve the sewerage system.
