Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif arrived in China on Tuesday on a four-day official visit, where she was warmly received by senior Chinese officials and diplomatic representatives at Urumqi International Airport. Chinese Consul General in Pakistan Sun Weidong saw off the chief minister at Lahore airport before her departure for China. According to a handout, upon her arrival in Urumqi, the chief minister received a warm welcome from senior Chinese officials and diplomatic representatives. She is staying at the Xinjiang State Guest House as an official guest of the Chinese government. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif commenced her official engagements at Kunlun Hall of the Conference Centre at the Xinjiang State Guest House, where she held a series of high-level meetings with senior Chinese officials.
A delegation led by Chen Xiaojiang, Secretary of the Communist Party of China in Xinjiang, called on the chief minister. She also held a meeting with He Zhongyou, Deputy Secretary of the Communist Party of China Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Regional Committee. The CM further met a delegation of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps (XPCC) and discussed matters of mutual interest and avenues for enhanced cooperation. Later, a dinner was hosted in honour of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and the Punjab delegation by He Zhongyou, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Regional Committee and Secretary of the Party Committee and Political Commissar.
