Lahore: Lahore Division Commissioner Nauman Yousaf has said the Punjab government’s proactive disaster management strategy, driven by advance planning, real-time monitoring and coordinated institutional response under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, had substantially strengthened the province’s capacity to tackle monsoon-related emergencies and urban flooding.
He expressed these views while addressing participants in the 40th Senior Management Course (SMC) during an orientation session held at the Commissioner’s Office here on Wednesday. Deputy commissioners of all four districts of Lahore Division and senior officers of various administrative departments attended the briefing.
The participants were briefed on the province’s disaster management infrastructure, monsoon action plan, emergency response strategy, coordination mechanisms and governance framework.
Commissioner Nauman Yousaf also highlighted the Punjab government’s latest initiatives aimed at improving public service delivery and expanding citizen facilitation.
Deputy commissioners gave detailed presentations on monsoon preparedness, drainage operations, flood evacuation plans, climate change adaptation measures and the operational challenges being addressed by district administrations.
The commissioner said Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif personally reviewed the performance of all districts on a daily basis and regularly monitored preparedness measures relating to rainfall, urban flooding and waterlogging. He said advance planning, timely reporting and prompt operational response had enabled authorities to ensure swift drainage of rainwater and minimise disruption during the ongoing monsoon season.
Nauman Yousaf emphasized that effective coordination among the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), district administrations and Rescue 1122 was indispensable for timely emergency response and efficient disaster management.
He said the provincial government’s integrated coordination mechanism and practical measures had significantly improved operational efficiency and strengthened institutional preparedness to deal with weather-related emergencies.
Later, Commissioner Nauman Yousaf presented commemorative shields to senior officers participating in the Senior Management Course.
The session was attended by Deputy Commissioner Lahore Muhammad Ali Ejaz, Deputy Commissioner Nankana Sahib Rana Liaqat, Additional Commissioner Bilal Hassan, Deputy Commissioner Kasur Asif Raza, Deputy Commissioner Sheikhupura Adil Tasawar, the Director of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Assistant Director (Development) Lahore Division and other senior officials.
