Lahore: Lahore Commissioner Nauman Yousaf on Saturday visited various parts of the city to review ongoing rainwater drainage operations following rainfall and directed authorities to ensure the earliest possible clearance of waterlogged areas, particularly in the Airport and Tajpura localities.
During visits to Lal Pul, Railway Bridge and Tajpura Butt Chowk, the commissioner, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Lahore Muhammad Ali Ejaz, received a briefing from WASA Managing Director Ghufran Ahmed on the progress of drainage operations.
The commissioner said the Airport and Tajpura areas had received comparatively heavier rainfall and instructed WASA to clear standing water in the shortest possible time. He directed officials to maintain equal focus on main roads, link roads and low-lying areas, adding that while all identified hotspots had been cleared, special attention should continue on low-lying streets across the city. He said a comprehensive cleanliness operation would begin immediately after the completion of drainage work.
Nauman Yousaf also visited Allama Iqbal Road Railway Bridge, Lal Pul, Lakshmi Chowk and the GPO area to inspect the situation. He said drainage teams were deployed at all key locations across the city and areas where rainfall had stopped were being cleared within the shortest possible time. He added that uninterrupted drainage operations during rainfall helped reduce water accumulation more quickly.
The commissioner said the district administration remained in the field to monitor operations and emphasized that cleanliness drives after drainage were equally essential. He added that all WASA camps and disposal stations were functioning at full capacity, while emergency teams remained on standby to respond promptly in case of further rainfall.
