Sialkot: The Monsoon Special Tree Plantation Drive was officially launched across the Sialkot district on Sunday, with the district administration setting a target of planting 150, 000 trees during the current monsoon season.
According to a spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Awais Mushtaq inaugurated the campaign at the Sialkot Tannery Zone (STZ) by planting a sapling. The initiative is being executed in collaboration with the Environment Protection Department and the Sialkot Tannery Zone Association.
Under the plan, the Environment Department has been assigned a target of planting 15, 000 trees, while 11 other departments have been tasked with planting 135, 000 saplings. The participating administrative bodies include the Health, Education, Forest, Highways, Local Government departments, Municipal Corporation, District Council, Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA), as well as the Marala and Pasrur Link Canal Irrigation Divisions.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Awais Mushtaq emphasized that expanding the green cover is critical for reducing urban temperatures, curbing air pollution, and securing a healthier environment for future generations. He noted that the monsoon season offers ideal conditions for planting and strictly instructed all participating departments to ensure proper aftercare and monitoring of the newly planted saplings to guarantee high survival rates.
Deputy Director Environment Protection Pakeeza Bukhari, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sialkot Tannery Zone Association Zulfiqar Hayat, Environment Inspector Shahid Dogar, and Project Director Tannery Zone Association Mirza Atif were also present at the ceremony.
