Peshawar: Former key commander of the Ansar-ul-Islam organization, Sayed Akbar was shot dead by unidentified armed assailants on Choli Ashaab Baba Road in Peshawar, police said on Sunday.
According to police, unidentified gunmen opened fire on Sayed Akbar, killing him on the spot. He was reportedly a resident of Tirah Valley and was considered one of the former organisation’s prominent commanders.
Sources said Sayed Akbar belonged to the Malik Din Khel tribe.
Police reached the scene after receiving information about the incident and collected evidence before launching an investigation.
Police said efforts were underway to identify and arrest those involved in the killing. The motive behind the shooting has not yet been determined.
