Bahawalpur: A man was injured in an exchange of fire with police near Basti Maral along the CPEC route in Ahmedpur East tehsil after he and another motorcyclist allegedly tried to evade a police checkpoint, Rescue 1122 officials said on Saturday.
According to Rescue 1122 officials,police had established a checkpoint near Basti Maral for routine checking of vehicles when a motorcycle carrying two persons was signalled to stop.
Quoting police personnel present at the scene,Rescue officials said the riders allegedly ignored the police order and opened fire,prompting police to retaliate.
During the exchange of fire,one suspects sustained a gunshot wound to his right leg while his accomplice managed to escape from the scene.
The injured suspect was identified as Farhan(22),r/o Mohalla Jagpur,Uch.
Rescue 1122 personnel provided initial medical treatment to Farhan at the scene before shifting him to Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital Ahmedpur East for further treatment.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident and initiated a search operation to apprehend the escaped suspect.
