Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa took a major step towards modernizing eye care services on Monday with the inauguration of the advanced SMILE Pro Laser Vision Correction System here at the Frontier Institute of Ophthalmology (FIO).
Provincial Minister for Health, Khaliqur Rahman on Monday formally inaugurated the state-of-the-art facility and termed its introduction a significant achievement for the province’s healthcare sector.
He said the availability of the latest laser vision correction technology would enable patients to receive advanced treatment within Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, reducing the need to seek specialized eye care in other cities.
The minister toured the newly established SMILE Pro Refractive Suite, where specialists briefed him on the system’s modern features, precision, safety standards and benefits for patients requiring laser vision correction.
Addressing the ceremony, Khaliqur Rahman said the provincial government was committed to strengthening healthcare infrastructure by promoting the adoption of cutting-edge medical technologies and improving access to quality treatment.
He said providing world-class healthcare services at the local level remained a key priority of the government, adding that investment in modern equipment and skilled healthcare professionals would significantly improve patient care while reducing both treatment costs and travel burdens.
The health minister also praised the management, doctors and staff of the Frontier Institute of Ophthalmology for introducing the advanced technology, expressing confidence that it would improve the quality of ophthalmic care and benefit thousands of patients across the province.
He vowed the provincial government’s continued support for healthcare institutions working to expand access to safe, innovative and high-quality medical services in KP.
