Faisalabad: Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) has flagged excessive sodium in one of 17 bottled mineral-water samples collected from various companies operating in Faisalabad during its April-June quarterly monitoring.
Spokesman of PCRWR Faisalabad office said that according to quarterly meeting report, the PCRWR teams collected and analyzed mineral-water samples from 17 companies in Faisalabad during the period.
Out of these, one sample was found to contain sodium above the permissible limit while the remaining samples met the specified parameters covered by the monitoring exercise, he added.
He said that the detailed results of the monitoring report have been made available on the PCRWR’s official website at www.pcrwr.gov.pk.
He said that the report also presents the findings of monitoring carried out across the country under which samples from 230 mineral-water companies were collected and analyzed. Of these, 201 samples were declared fit while 29 were found to have issues involving sodium levels and the presence of bacteria, he added.
He said that the report findings highlighted the importance of regular monitoring and quality testing of bottled drinking water to ensure that consumers receive safe and hygienic water meeting prescribed standards.
He said that PCRWR teams conduct periodic monitoring of bottled-water companies to assess the quality of commercially available drinking water against relevant parameters. The latest quarterly assessment covered the period from April to June, he added.
He said that the council’s findings also underscored the need for bottled-water companies to maintain strict quality-control standards and ensure that their products remain compliant with prescribed safety requirements before reaching consumers.
The consumers have also been advised through the availability of the monitoring results to remain informed about the quality status of bottled-water brands and make informed choices regarding drinking water, he added.
