Peshawar: The Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) has stepped up its campaign against electricity theft by deploying three dedicated Surveillance and Investigation (SandI) teams in the Khyber Circle to strengthen enforcement and improve power distribution.
The move, initiated on the directives of PESCO Chief Akhtar Hameed Khan, is aimed at curbing electricity theft, recovering outstanding dues and reducing transmission and distribution losses, officials said on Tuesday.
As part of the ongoing operation, the special teams carried out raids in Tajabad and Landi Arbab on August 3, recovering Rs 2. 117 million in outstanding electricity bills. The teams also recovered Rs 650, 000 from consumers found involved in power theft.
In a further crackdown, Rs 170, 000 was recovered from owners of permanently disconnected electricity connections, while several illegal power connections were disconnected during the operation.
PESCO officials said sustained action against power theft and defaulters would help improve revenue collection, reduce system losses and contribute to a more reliable electricity supply, ultimately easing load management in the region.
The utility reaffirmed its resolve to continue such operations across its service areas to protect the national exchequer and ensure fair distribution of electricity.
