Lahore: Punjab Police have arrested more than 116,000 proclaimed offenders (POs), over 35,500 court absconders and 12,800 habitual criminals across the province during the current year as part of its ongoing crackdown against criminals involved in heinous crimes.
According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, the arrested proclaimed offenders included around 29,000 A-category and more than 87,000 B-category offenders.
The spokesperson said police teams had also arrested 35,546 court absconders, including 5,254 A-category and 30,292 B-category offenders, during the crackdown. In addition, 12,865 habitual criminals were arrested, comprising 4,406 A-category and 8,459 B-category offenders.
In Lahore, the provincial capital, police arrested 26,868 proclaimed offenders, 11,229 court absconders and 5,203 habitual criminals during the ongoing operations.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Abdul Kareem appreciated the performance of police teams involved in the arrests and commended their efforts to apprehend proclaimed offenders and court absconders. He directed police officers to further intensify operations against proclaimed offenders, habitual criminals and court absconders and ensure that such actions continued with greater effectiveness across the province.
