Malakand: Rescue 1122 Malakand has intensified its emergency preparedness after the Pakistan Meteorological Department predicted widespread rainfall in the region until August 6, prompting authorities to place all operational units on high alert.
District Emergency Officer Nasir Khan directed all rescue stations, the emergency control room, water rescue teams and disaster response units to remain fully equipped and ready to respond swiftly to any untoward situation arising from the expected weather conditions.
Officials warned that the forecast rains could lead to flash floods in seasonal streams, a rise in river water levels, landslides in mountainous areas and urban flooding in low-lying localities.
Rescue 1122 appealed to residents to adopt precautionary measures by avoiding unnecessary travel during heavy rains and staying away from rivers, torrents and flood-prone areas.
The department advised citizens to report any emergency immediately by calling the Rescue 1122 helpline, assuring that emergency teams would remain on standby throughout the forecast period to provide timely assistance.
