Hyderabad: Sindh Agriculture University (SAU), Tandojam organized a colorful cultural event titled ‘Cultural Diversity and Showcase of Various Cultures’ at the Dr. A. M Shaikh Auditorium Hall as part of the celebrations marking Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day.
According to the SAU spokesperson Gul Sher Lochi, the event highlighted the rich cultural diversity of Pakistan, with discussions and performances showcasing the traditions, languages, dresses, music, lifestyles and agricultural heritage of the country’s provinces and different regions.
Speaking as the chief guest, Dean Faculty of Crop Production, Dr. Inayatullah Rajpar said that the ancient civilization and culture of Sindh, closely associated with the Indus River, represents the country’s thousands-year-old historical heritage. He said the cultures of Pakistan’s different provinces and regions collectively form a beautiful bouquet of national culture.
He said Pakistan’s cultural diversity was a symbol of national strength, tolerance and mutual respect. The agricultural cultures of different regions also share deep similarities, as agriculture remains closely connected with the country’s economy, civilization and rural life.
Dr. Rajpar added, the people of Sindh had a particularly deep affection for their agricultural culture, which was reflected even in the names given to children after flowers, fruits, trees and beautiful birds. He emphasized that cultural heritage must be preserved and passed on to the younger generation.
Dean Faculty of Crop Protection, Dr. Abdul Mubeen Lodhi said Pakistan’s art, literature, poetry, music, dance and traditional attire reflect the country’s rich history and strong cultural foundations. He said culture was an important component of a nation’s identity, and connecting young people with their cultural heritage was essential for preserving national traditions.
Chairman STEP, Dr. Muhammad Ismail Kumbhar said Pakistan’s diverse languages, traditional dresses, music, dances, cuisines, customs and traditions demonstrate that the country was culturally rich and diverse. He said Sindh’s Sindhi cap, Ajrak, Ralli, Lungi and renowned hospitality had a distinct identity, while the cultures of Punjab, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan had further enriched the national cultural landscape.
Dr. Tehseen Fatima Miano, Dr. Zaheer Khan and other speakers also addressed the gathering and highlighted the cultural characteristics, historical heritage and social traditions of different regions of Pakistan.
The highlight of the event was a series of cultural performances by students representing the traditions of provinces and different regions. Students presented cultural dances to regional and national songs, beautifully showcasing the vibrant traditions of Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Their performances received enthusiastic appreciation from the audience.
