Hyderabad: Sindh Agriculture University (SAU) Tandojam on Tuesday finalized a comprehensive month-long program to celebrate Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day, featuring a series of academic, cultural, environmental, social and sports activities aimed at promoting patriotism, national unity, civic responsibility and public awareness among students and the wider community.
According to the SAU spokesperson Gul Sher Lochi, the program was approved during a high-level planning meeting chaired by the vice chancellor Engr. Prof. Dr. Altaf Ali Siyal, where participants reviewed the proposed schedule, discussed arrangements for the celebrations and constituted various committees to oversee different activities. Responsibilities were assigned to ensure the smooth execution of events throughout August.
Presenting the proposed schedule, STEP Chairman, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ismail Kumbhar said the celebrations would formally commence on August 5 with national flag-hoisting ceremonies across the university.
During the first week, the university would organize an inaugural seminar, a solidarity rally and awareness walk to mark Kashmir Exploitation Day along with a tree plantation campaign and environmental awareness activities under the theme “Green Pakistan, Green Future. ”
The second week would feature a grand Independence Rally, faculty tableaus, an illumination ceremony, cultural performances and speech competitions in Urdu, Sindhi and English.
The central Independence Day ceremony on August 14 would include the national flag hoisting, the national anthem, an address by the vice chancellor, tributes to the country’s martyrs, and recognition of distinguished alumni as well as long-serving university employees. Special prayers would also be offered for Pakistan’s peace, unity and prosperity.
In the third week, the Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences would organize a free veterinary medical camp, livestock vaccination and deworming services for farmers. Awareness sessions on monsoon flood preparedness and climate change would also be held, while the finals of the Independence Sports Gala would conclude the week’s activities.
The final week would feature the “Clean and Green Pakistan” campaign including campus and residential colony cleanliness drives and plantation activities. A Farmers’ Convention would also be organized, focusing on food security, modern agricultural technologies and challenges faced by the farming community.
The month-long celebrations would conclude with a closing ceremony, during which certificates and awards would be presented to outstanding participants and volunteers. A comprehensive report including photographs, media coverage and documentation of the events would be submitted to the relevant authorities between September 1 and 10.
Among those attending the planning meeting were Registrar Ghulam Mohiuddin Qureshi, STEP Chairman Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ismail Kumbhar, Dr. Abdul Latif Bhutto, Campus Director Muhammad Ashraf Rustmani, Dr. Qamaruddin Jogi, Dr. Piyar Ali Shar, Engr. Zaheer Ahmed Khan, Dr. Ghulam Hussain Wagan and other senior university officials.
