Travel agency accountant arrested over hundi/hawala dealings

Faisalabad The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Faisalabad Zone has arrested an accountant of a travel agency in Sahiwal for his alleged involvement in illegal hundi/hawala and unauthorised foreign currency transactions.



According to FIA officials, the agency’s Composite Circle Sahiwal conducted the operation on credible information against illegal hundi/hawala and unauthorized foreign currency transactions and arrested the accused under FIR No.04/2026 registered on September 29, 2026. Saffron



The FIA team raided Safeeran-e-Zam Zam Travel Agency at Mazdoor Puli Sahiwal and detained the accused Muhammad Abdul Rauf son of Muhammad Farooq who was working as an accountant at the travel agency.



During operation, the FIA team recovered two mobile phones, three laptops and one Dell desktop computer besides ledgers relating to Saudi riyal transactions, deposit slips and digital transaction records, officials said.



Preliminary examination of the recovered material revealed evidence of transactions involving Saudi riyals and transfer of funds through the accounts of different companies, the officials said, adding that the role of other individuals allegedly involved in the transactions was being determined during the ongoing investigation.



The FIA registered a case against the accused under Sections 4, 5, 8 and 23 of Foreign Exchange Regulation Act 1947 read with Section 109 of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).



Further investigation was under way to trace the financial transactions and establish the nature and extent of the alleged illegal foreign exchange activity.



The involvement, if any, of other persons would be determined in accordance with the law after completion of the investigation, officials added.
